Target Card not VISA

Applied for the Target red card to improve utilization. Got the online response of you will be notified. Got a phone call a day later confirming submitted info and they approved the card. So I guess the online response is not always a no.

Re: Target Card not VISA

200 dollar CL. I feel like I wasted an inquiry on such a small amount.

We should start a club for Target $200 CL members. I've had mine for over a yr and no CLI at all. They repeatedly say NO.

Re: Target Card not VISA

They seem quite arbitrary. I applied at the store in Feb or March, got the $200 CL. Never used it, and then used it one time in July for $7.06 or something small like that... Before I even got the bill, they sent me a letter that they were upgrading me to their VISA at $1000. Very weird.

I wonder if it's because I never used it when I first got it? Who knows... But to those who get a new card with them, just sock drawer it for a few months and see what happens?

Re: Target Card not VISA

I also have a Target card with a CL of $200. Strangely enough, I got approved right at the Target store when I happen to be purchasing something that day with my ATM. I found it strange but excited that I even got approved for a card even though it was $200! This was in Oct 06 and I've been using the card here and there since then. Maybe I'll try putting it away for a few months too and see what happens!

I suppose it is possible. I used my card extensively and they repeatedly deny me a CLI, but my DW hardly ever used hers and she just got upgraded from a $200.00 Redcard to a $1500 Visa with no explanation.

Re: Target Card not VISA

I would have to agree. I had my target card and got increases regularly but never used it but once every thre or four months for a small purchase.  Bang! Upgrade to Visa.

I was told it was like a semi annual or annual review to see which lucky redcard holders would get the coveted Visa

They just started a new policy in June of this year. They review every account monthly because their goal is to convert as many as possible over to the (dreaded high interest- I added that part) Visa. That is what I was told by customer service when I called to ask once again for a CLI. They don't take requests anymore. So I tried to circumvent the system and applied directly for a Visa and was, you guessed it, declined. I think somehow when you get on their bad side, you stay there forever. Just wish I knew what I did to get there. LOL
