I also have a Target card with a CL of $200. Strangely enough, I got approved right at the Target store when I happen to be purchasing something that day with my ATM. I found it strange but excited that I even got approved for a card even though it was $200! This was in Oct 06 and I've been using the card here and there since then. Maybe I'll try putting it away for a few months too and see what happens!

I was told it was like a semi annual or annual review to see which lucky redcard holders would get the coveted Visa

They just started a new policy in June of this year. They review every account monthly because their goal is to convert as many as possible over to the (dreaded high interest- I added that part) Visa. That is what I was told by customer service when I called to ask once again for a CLI. They don't take requests anymore. So I tried to circumvent the system and applied directly for a Visa and was, you guessed it, declined. I think somehow when you get on their bad side, you stay there forever. Just wish I knew what I did to get there. LOL

I didn't think they ever took requests for that.  I know you can request a CLI over the phone but didn't know about the monthly review for Visa status.  I was told about the semi annual thing about the same time because I was coming up on my anniversary and wnated to know what I needed to do to convert.  Hmmmm..... Maybe to encurage more people who shop at Walmart to use their Target cards there.  I would have thought that just plain rude til recently.

And you are Soooooo right the interestrate is horrible even at its lowestSmiley Very Happy  and hardly anyone gets their lowest interest rate.

They pulled EQ on me. I live in WA state, but don't know if that makes a difference.

WHAT WERE YOUR SCORES?  I HAVE BEEN TOLD TARGET CARDS ARE EASY TO GET.  EQUIFAX IS MY LOWEST SCORE WITH LIMITED INFO, BUT EXPERIAN HAS MY HIGHEST SCORE AND ALL OF MY CREDIT.  I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT WERE WORTH IT TO APPLY.

Re: Target Card not VISA

I am getting ready to go over to Target to grocery shop.  Everytime I get to the check-out line they say that I am approved for a card.  How do they know that by just scanning my groceries?  Anyone want me to ask them some questions when I'm there today? lol

They have changed their policy now. You cannot even request a CLI over the phone any longer. You only get a recording that says, "because we systematically evaluate accounts on a monthly basis, we no longer accept CLI requests over the phone or with an agent."

I already had the Redcard and was trying for the Visa. My EQ score was 637 at the time (8/9/2007) and has now jumped one whole point to 638. Whoooohooooo!

However, when I first got my Redcard with $200 CL a yr ago, my EQ was around 578. But for some reason, they refuse to give me an increase, even with a 60 point increase in my score. I am thinking about kicking them to the curb.

Re: Target Card not VISA

I applied online for a Target card and I got the dreaded rejection letter in the mail. Then about a week and a half later I was shopping at Target, I paid with my debit card from my bank account. They gave me my receipt and another slip that I figured was a survey or something. Later on that day I pulled all my purchases out of the Target bag and was getting ready to toss out the bag and the receipt when for some reason I decided I should grab the receipt out of the bag. I looked at the extra slip with the receipt and it said "You're Pre-Approved!". It had a upc bar for the checker to scan the next time I shopped at Target. The offer was good for a couple of weeks. Needless to say I hurried over to Target to see if this was true. Sure enough.....I was approved. It was only a $200 limit, but at least it is something positive. So.....people....when you shop at Target....look at your receipts before you toss them. I have no idea if it was random or if it had to do with the application I placed the week or so before that. Thats my story.

Makes you wonder what's actually coded in that strip.  A lot of companies will let you apply for credit by scanning another card in their card reader. hmmmmm!!! Inquiring minds want to know!!! LOL!! Smiley Very Happy
