So the target card, if I were actually a shopper of their store, would give me the ability to only pay 4.25% sales-tax, instead of our usual 9.25% Heck of a deal!

True but don't most states not charge sales tax on groceries?

I've never heard of this, but Target doesn't only sell groceries, they sell other household items as well, the way things get charged in VA is 5% tax. For food other places charge 2.5% tax, but everything else is 5%. I believe in NJ, clothing are tax free along with some other items. I can see how you can save a lot at Target in this state.

I have the Target Debit Card and they did not do a pull.

Same here. Never received a hard pull.

Re: Target Debit gets HP?

I used to work at target and there should be no hard pull to your credit report. The only time there was a hard pull was when you was applying for the target CREDIT card not the target DEBIT card. You should be A OK. You save 5% when you use your Target DEBIT card too. :-)

Good Luck

Yeah, here both clothing and grocery (though not some snack/junk food) are tax exempt.  Otherwise 7.775%.

And yeah, no pull here either for the Target card.  I've had it for a couple years.  I just think it's annoying than in this day in age you still have to fill out a paper application for both that and the store card.  Really, Target?

Re: Target Debit gets HP?

I would have to look at the receipt, but I think you get the 5% off of your pretax total, then you are taxed on the remaining balance.

$100- $5 + 9.25% (8.79) =103.79

Target cannot give you a discount on taxes, so the above scenario is better than.

$100 + 9.25 - 5 = 104.25

Hmmmm, I think I want to see a Target liquor store Heart

I actually happen to have a Target receipt in front of me and the 5% discount applies to the pre-tax amount.  Also, yes...Target liquor would be fantastic.  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Target Debit gets HP?

Thanks Herr Fieldmarshal, that means my argument is valid, you are actually saving more than 5%.  That is unless you live in Delaware, then it is only 5%.

I'm sure they check your ChexSystems report which shows bounced checks or bank account closures that were derogatory. You can get a free copy of that yearly.
