Has anyone applied for the Technology Credit Union for a credit card. They are in the SF Bay area - I bank with them, and they just started offering their own credit cards. I spoke with them and they pull EXP, and said they require a score of 740 (seems high)
Has anyone applied for this ? any data points - a search does not reveal anything
Thanks
I had a long call with a different CSR, lot of good info
she said the 740 was not true - they don't have a magic cut-off per se
they place a lot of emphasis on
low util
long credit history (seem to be new acct sensitive)
past Tech CU experience helps
they do all manual reviews - and look at everything
Visa Classic: up to 25K limits
Visa Signature: up to 50K limits
In the end I did not apply - on score alone I would get approval, but I have 3 new accts in last 6 months
I really want a cc with the bank I do all my biz with, but it can wait
It has not been confirmed that they require a 740 score. Also, there are many California CU that do not require that high of a score to be approved for their lending products. There are many in other states that do require a high score......
see my last reply (I spoke with a diff't CSR who had add'l info)

Why? While this seems to make logical sense it doesn't necessarily make financial sense. A lot of people do this though but, When you can pick a checking account that makes 2.5% or more and TCU offers 0.05% on checking. If you keep anything worthwhile in cash this doesn't make sense. If you keep a good cushion of 25-50K there's plenty of options that will pay you while you float everyday charges on your CC's. When I was getting 2.5% up to 25K that's approx $50/mo of interest in my pocket.
Do yourself a favor and put some time into finding an account that works for you ![]()
