Terms and Conditions!

Does anyone other than me read this stuff?

Ok, so I know some of you do. I read a lot of post on here and people have questions or issues that could easily be solved if they only read the T&C. I don't get it. Some even go as far as blaming the CCC when results aren't what they expect.

Re: Terms and Conditions!

I read them. It is a contract between you and the CCC.

For the most part they have similar attributes, so once you understand one, it is a matter of scanning for the differences that might appear with another CCC.

It's the nature of people not to read 'instructional manuals.  How many times does someone say 'how does this work?' or 'wow, I didn't know my XYZ gadget did that'.

In the case of credit cards, far easier for some people to blame the big bad credit card companies than accept the blame themselves.

Re: Terms and Conditions!

I can sort of understand not reading the T&Cs once you get the card, as they can be long and are fairly similar.   What does surprise me if when people apply and get a card with no idea of its reward structure etc (and this is just summary stuff, not reading T&Cs online before apping).    My guess is some people will just take a preapproval without much research.

You mean I should have read that offer from Credit One before I took it. 😲

Re: Terms and Conditions!

Since most T&C's have the same structure and much of the same government mandated language, I typically just scan to the specific sections that may differ.

Re: Terms and Conditions!

I have read through them in detail before so now I skim them for any major differences in the boilerplate or specific things like payment application rules etc.

On my last refinance I read the entire package. The closer asked if I was an attorney because she had never had anyone read the whole thing before. (I'm not BTW)

Re: Terms and Conditions!

I'm familiar with them enough to just scan through them now, but I DO read every "changes to your agreement" or "updated terms" letter I receive from anybody.  I've also found myself sitting on the couch with the hard copy of the terms looking through in case I have a question about something.

What I don't understand is when people just chuck out their paperwork when the card comes in.  I have a little box in my closet with my welcome letters in it so if there's ever a question I know where I can find my paperwork.  Maybe I'm just a little too anal.

ETA: because of this forum, I could probably say I'm almost as familiar with the terms of cards I DON'T EVEN HAVE as I am with the cards I do, haha.  I have found myself reading the paperwork for cards and that's how I ended up with my wishlist.

Re: Terms and Conditions!

I go through all the pricing, T&C, and I comb through the benefit guide/benefit terms as well.

That primary rental cdw doesn't mean anything if you don't know what it does and doesn't cover.
