It seems like a trend that people app for the Zync then wish they had gone for the gold or green since the rewards are better. But getting the Zync with a 634 is pretty good, especially for those that are borderline.
While the rewards are better, it doesn't make much sense to get either of those with the higher annual fees if there's no way for you to push enough money through it. So far I've switched the insurance to autodeduct from Zync, the cell phones and a couple odds and ends. Car payment won't let me pay with Amex. Even if I could make the car payment and future mortgage with Amex, the rewards would just barely cover the annual fee for us. We just don't spend much in the categories that earn more points.
But, really wanted in with Amex as we're anticipating a change in circumstances in a couple years when we're both working again. But, for now the Zync was the only one that made sense as our scores just aren't high enough for a revolver from them.

The only paid pack we ended up adding was the home pack. Since we're closing on a house soon it will come in handy to get the extra rewards at Lowes, especially since it comes with a gift card for more than the fee anyways.
We don't travel, or go out to eat, or buy music and so on. Probably the biggest deal for me will be the Eco pack which was free.. lol.. A few of the consignment stores I like are included in double points.
If there was a gas, diapers and groceries pack I'd be all over it..

how did you get amex to give you your score?
I got a BCE and not a Zync, but after getting approved AMEX sent me a letter in the mail with my FICO EX score with a brief 'understanding your FICO score' summary. In constrast to AMEX, Citi and BoA sent me EQ credit summary with a score that did not state that it was a FICO score and so it probably wasn't..
I got my zync in the mail today...got approved for it after midnight on Sunday...arrived at my house by Thursday. NPSL...wish I checked my credit before applying. I haven't looked at my CR since October so I have no clue what my credit score is now.
