True. Did it with the Discover and the Citi Dividend.

Glad they're offering 5% on furnitures et al. Not required right now.

Also, my other to-go is the QS with really high rates: ergo, no 0% greed Smiley Very Happy

I really only use my Chase card. My other cards like my Citi and Discover are carrying a balance but those are SDd for sure. Discover isnt really that widely accepted and my Citi card offers no rewards.

My Chase Freedom has toy limits. Trying to spend it limited (restaurants only) and the PIF so that the utilization is not ugly. Sallie Mae for groceries and QS for all else. Six other cards (incl Discover It, AMEX BCE) are being SDed unless they show me some CLI love.

Describe this toy limit. I'm sure (hoping) the limit isn't that bad. It definitely cant be First Premier $300 CL bad...lol

It is bad Smiley Sad $500.

Nopes, the moment I see an AF, I run away (it can be good or bad but that's been my policy).

Chase does this to me, and says too many inquiries. Half of those came from them.

I should have come to this forum earlier. I thought having my bank accounts with them would help me get a card, but that didn't happen. All I got were inquiries on EX.

My previous toys were Cap One Platinum ($500 again), and Discover It ($750). Both raised to $2k after 5-6 months of use. I'm hoping the same with Chase. Let's see.

Be patient and give it time. Here's a back story. I bank with Chase as well. I banked with WaMu before it became Chase. Anyway I applied for two cards with them in 2012. I got Freedom at 3k and Amazon VISA at 1.5k. I later combined both cards and kept my Freedom but closed Amazon VISA. Got bumped up with a $300 auto increase and new line was 4800. After about a year, I requested CLI...a HP of course and only got 1000 so my CL went to 5800. Right around the same time I became eligible for a VS card Requested a Visa Signature and got it so now it reports Flexible Spend Card. CL stayed at 5800 for another year and just got a surprise auto bump to 7300 a few days ago! There is HOPE!

So don't close it. Clear up those baddies if any. Use your card frequently and pay the balance down and trust me you will see some luv. If you want it sooner rather than later....request one. But it will be a HP and they do luv Experian.

Thanks for the story maiden.

I'm holding back any inquiries for a year at the least. I want to get my scores up a 100 points before I touch any more HP. So yeah, I'll take a Chase CLI if they give it to me for free.

I also have a 1k Slate with them. Using it for a BT, will be gone in 6-8 months. After that, I'll try for a clubbing if they allow. If not, I'll wait for the card anniversary.

Thankfully, no missed payments yet. My file is basically new; the oldest account being less than 2 years. I have most of the good (no-AF) cards in the market today except any travel cards, and all my limits are pretty pedestrian.

My plan is to get <10% utilization in 3-4 months (it was 50% last month, will be 35% next month) and then stay there for the next 6-8 months. Hopefully the scores will be where I want them to be.

You wll get there in time. YOU CAN DO IT!! Avoid uncessary app sprees. My scores fail when I began apping. I ended up closing alot of the cards and hurting my AAoA thus causing my FICO to drop from high 700s to high 600s. LOL. Keep doing what you're doing and youll be solid!!

Thanks !

I have no annual-fee cards so I won't close any of them. This forum is teaching me enough good things, and I'll hopefully be able to use credit smartly.

Appreciate the encouragement. Good night maiden, have a wonderful week ahead !

Re: The GREAT CC Payoff Challenge!!

I was told to jump in this thread stemming from another post, so I'll just paste what I wrote there Smiley Happy

It has been a terrible day.  I have to pass on the dream home my wife and I have been pursuing and fell in love with for about a month now because they won't budge on the price at all.  With that said, it's an opportunity to get rid of my CC debt with the downpayment money I had saved to use for that particular home, and get my credit score (barely over 620) in a much better situation before we find another home later on down the road.

I know I can really do some damage on getting rid of all CC debt, but I'm not sure how to handle it.

Current FICO Score: 638 (was 615 last month)

CC's:

Chase: Balance: 5300  Limit: 7200

Capital One:  Balance: 580  Limit: 2000

Kay Jewelers: Balance: 1321  Limit: 7000

Best Buy:  Balance: 749  Limit: 4000

Should I just pay them all off within the next month?  Concentrate on one first, then the rest?  All are under 30% except for Chase.  What would you do?  Thanks, you guys/gals are great!

Re: The GREAT CC Payoff Challenge!!

I would pay off the Best Buy card first. Typically your APR will be higher on a store card and end up costing more in the long run. But if you have the ability to pay them all off...why not pay them all off? That makes the most financial sense.

You must look at the situation from a broader perspective.

what are the percentage rates you are paying?

Do you have the ability to continue to save for the replacement of the downpayment?

How long do you plan on waiting before attempting your home purchase now?

Will this payoff be something that you have the discipline to maintain good standings and continue to save?

How much are the debts costing you? (scores, interest, frustration, stress?)

Everyone makes their own plan.  We are here to guide as we can.  With the limited information given, I am unable to formulate a "makes sense to me gameplan"

so... Hypothetically... IF i was going to be looking at buying a house in 3 to 6 months.. i would :

NOT APP for ANYTHING!

Pay off ALL Credit Cards except one, and have it report between 1 and 7% utilization (For max score)

Wait for all three CRAs to update the most current information.

Do everything in my power to get a downpayment that did not require any points or PMI policies.

IF  you are going to use a substantial portion of your "down payment", then you may need to rethink your timeframe on house h unting.

and Owning a home is a lot better then credit card debt. period!.. (thats just my opinion)

Let us know if we can help you figure this out Brady!.. Sorry for being so slow to respond.
