Time to clean up the line up

So currently I have 7 cards and I'm thinking of getting rid of 2/3 the ones I feel need the boot for sure is AppleCard ( just shy of 1yr) 14.5k because it refuses to grow anymore no matter how much I show them I'm responsible by using and paying back it just gives bs reasons not to increase me  the next one is Target (couple weeks old) 2k limit because their customer service sucks and I just don't like having a store card with such a low limit and the last one is Citi custom cash and I'm honestly on the fence about this one limit is 6.8k  and it's 3 months old tried for an increase but denied stating I recently opened up to many accounts which is totally false!  Now loosing these cards will not hurt me in the slightest way I have never been one to keep cards open just because I opened them if I feel they're not benefiting me I cut them off cause it ain't nothing to cut those cards off!!! I rather focus on using cards from places that appreciate my spend and excellent payment history than one that throws out bs excuses not to let my cards grow. So I'm going into 2023 w a lighter load honesty I don't want no more than 5 cards anyways and even that's to many I would love to get down to 3 !!! Quick question to get preapproved mailers do your credit reports have to be unfrozen? Not that I want anymore cards I would just enjoy receiving them lol

Re: Time to clean up the line up

Hope you feel better now. If its thats stressful and upsets you. Thin the herd and close them. Life goes on. Credit unions are more into relationships and not banks. Some cards take time to grow over time. Applying for a card and you dont get what you want and then close them is not the best way. Three months isnt a long time to prove anything with Citi. Not like you've had a card for 10+yrs and they know your patterns. You talking about 3 months to 1 yr old cards you want to close. Charge offs, credit card debt. repos, forclosures are on the rise and all financial institutions are holding back. Look at all the closures and CL decreases popping up on here recently. Its the perks that make you money/rewards. Not the CL.

Citi has rules, one of which is if you have opened a card, any card within the last 6 months you are not elegible for a CLI on their cards. Your card is only 3 months old so of course they aren't going to give you a CLI. Not to mention that 6.8k is enough to earned your 5% capped rewards every month and still have UTIL at less than 10%. My Citi cards grow slowly but consistently. As for the others I have no experience so won't chime in on those.

Re: Time to clean up the line up

@MeN5  I rant all the time here about giving cards the CHOP!!!  That said I'd probably exercise a 'bit' more patience with the others.  I don't know where you're at in your overall profile, but they don't seem terrible for such short periods since opening.  The $2k?  Good argument for giving it the axe, however I'd pause on the others.

But I aint mad if you chop them as part of your diabolical plan for world domination.  😉

Re: Time to clean up the line up

OP, you are not wrong.  You do you.

As mentioned above, some issuers like Citi take time to grow your credit limits.

My thoughts are just so drastically different than yours.  I do not have a Target card.  DW does.  Started as a $300 store card... then a $700 store card... then a $2k Mastercard...now it's a $2.5k Mastercard.

It gets very little use.

It's nearly ten years old.

...and it saves us 5% every time we use it.

We're keeping it.

You do you tho.

Good luck!

Re: Time to clean up the line up

I may have been out of the game for a few years but it seems strange to close cards because you haven't gotten a CLI in under a year. If you want to have 5 cards or even 3, you need to stop applying for cards and closing them. You also want to be with issuers who give out big limits. You also need to be spending a serious enough amount to get the higher limits. If you want 20,30,or 50K limits, you need more patience. Store cards like target will never be that high. I would be looking at Chase, American Express, and a credit union. Nasa or Navy come to mind. Credit is a journey not a race. Tons of people have excellent payment history. A bank can't give everyone high limits. There are many calculations that come into play. For example I have an Apple card that has only grown about 2K every 4 months. But I have 6 cards with Chase ranging from 20K to 60K. 250K total limits, 3% utilzation, 9 years history, 780 FICO acorss the board, and 5 years AAoA. Water the garden and watch it bloom.

Jaguar F-Type R Loan 50K Balance
Goldman Sachs Signature Loan $29,000 TU 750 score pulled at time of loan.
Student Loan Debt $1,500
Credit Card Debt $300 1>% of $166,700
FAKO Transunion 723 Equifax 744
What's in my wallet? Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Freedom Unlimited, and AMEX Blue for Business

Be careful, closing too many down, and it might mess with your utilization rate if you carry or decide to carry a balance... I'd give them awhile longer and try for CLI later and you might be surprised.

Otherwise, if it's too stressful for you I'd shut them down. Nothing more important than your health.
