Timing apps with moving

I asked a similar question over at the General Credit board regarding personal loans, but didn't get a response.  Since this could also be applied to CC apps, I'll ask here Smiley Happy

Since I'm nearly done with the closing process on my first home, an address change naturally comes with the package!  So when I am putting out new apps for CCs, personal loans, or whatever after I close, will I run into approval problems if I use my new address instead of my current one, seeing as how my mortgage won't start reporting for two or three months?  Should I make address changes to all of my existing accounts, wait for them to update address information with the credit bureaus, and THEN be free to app?  If I need to make an app right away (like DW and I need to do for a personal loan to fund a home improvement project), would it be better to use our current address for the app and then change the address to our new one after the fact?

Re: Timing apps with moving

The only thing I believe they are going to use address for (in approval process), is verifying it is yours. I don't think mortgages report the actual address of property itself, just whatever address listed for owner on the loan, so when it reports won't matter. Typically applications will ask if you have lived at current address for x amount of time(usualy 2 years), and if not to list your previous addresses.

Perhaps a lender may need to verify your identiy with you if current address hasn't been added to credit report yet, so it could delay and application. I don't think you will get outright denied if address doesn't match, maybe application rejected. By this I mean they can't say "We can't approve your application because we don't think its you applying" and then still put inquiry on report.

As for your question, after you close and actually move in, go ahead and update all your addresses to current accounts, pehaps call one and request they report to credit bureuas early due to address change, and then feel free to app. Either way you can wait until reports are updated then apply, or apply and possibly get a delay to verify address/identiy. So it both situations you will possibly will have a delay before approval. You will have less issues with lenders you already have a relationship with.

Re: Timing apps with moving

Until the new address hits your credit report you may run into some snags.  When we moved in to our new house I was only getting preapprovals for First Premier and Credit One, but if I put in my old address it was back to normal.  Once the address hit all of my reports then everything went back to normal.

Re: Timing apps with moving

So as long as I have lenders report the new address to all three bureaus so they have it on record, I would probably be good to go with apps after that?  I wasn't sure if I'd need some kind of cooldown period from the address change date.  The CCCs I'm considering apping to are ones with which we already have relationships -- Capital One, Barclays, and Amex -- so they'll already have our new address on file by the time it comes to app.  And the personal loan we want will be through Wells Fargo, which is our primary banking, and we'll also do that one in person, so hopefully we can better explain our situation if the address issue comes up.  Thanks for the advice!

Re: Timing apps with moving

Are you planning on apping online or in person.  It may help to go in and speak with a banker (at least with Wells Fargo) and explain the new address.  I don't neccesarily think you will get a flat our denied, but you may have to call to verify information if you apply with an address that the automated system doesn't recognize.

My co-worker is a 100% travelling person.  She lives out of hotels.  So when she applied for her last card she put the hotel address that she was currently at.  She got the "call us" message and they made her provide a different address because that one wasn't on file, so she had to end up sending it to her parents house which was her last permanent address.  You may run into something like that.
