Re: Tired of the EDP Shot Clock.........30 swipes

I glad to see others were thinking the same way.  I loved the card in the beginning and we only spent 4k+- on grocery this year.

Weren't you one of the "EDP is most undervalued card on MyFico" movement?      But 30 does turn out to be a lot of swipes per month

I can see how people might swipe/spend unnecessarily just to meet the limit!

And I'm sure if that happened Amex would share your shock!   "Oh, that wasn't our intention....."

I never spent unnecessarily but w/ PRG I get 2 point for morning coffee instead of 1.50 points.

I was and I think it still is but it's not necessary to have both the PRG and EDP.  I think you need one or the other.

Yes, I was greedy going for the 50k sign-up bonus and that is what is changing my mind about the EDP, because I have the PRG.

All my airfare business and personal airfare is on plat, for 5x so that's a keeper not to mention the travel perks.

ED/EDP swipes per month are precisely why I went with BCE in the first place.  I already have a swipe requirement for debit to get my 2.5% on checking.  At least with BCE/P you just swipe it and collect your cashback instead of trying to jump through hoops to get a negligible perk added on each month.  Now getting $50-$60/mo on my checking is worthwhile in comparison to the what?  $5/mo on EDP

I'm all about getting travel rewards.  I don't want cashback.

My travel reward redemptions are far better than anything that could be offered in a cashback card.

FreedomU I assume is your go-to card for off-category purchases when perks don't matter?

You may have said that CSR is just for taking clients out or something? It would be unusual for 2x MRs on PRG to beat 3x URs on CSR for coffee. Or the coffee codes as groceries instead of dining?

I get how EDP is a hassle with the 30-count tracker...but I don't see the appeal of PRG (unless you have a lot of personal dining expenses that you don't want to put on Reserve). Platinum now gives 5x MRs on airfare and CSR gives 3x URs on dining. You don't spend a ton on groceries, and that just leaves gas as a bonus category.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

W/ my ink card I get a boat load of UR.  I do break-up my Personal dining on PRG and CSR, all my business dining and hotels goe on CSR, heavy dining budget for both.  DW & DD use Freedom U, I was using EDP..  I try to balance both reward programs.  I plan on getting Amex bus plat in feb 75k offer which is good until 2/7 for the 50% rebate and 1.5x for expense purchases  over 5k.

I have the ED and will be getting rid of it as well, I find it so annoying to hit a swipe requirement. I would find myself buying gum to hit the number needed, ridiculous. I also have the BCP but will PC to the BCE, screw the AF for that card when I use my PRG 9 times out of 10.

Re: Tired of the EDP Shot Clock.........30 swipes

I might be the minority but I very much enjoy my EDP. Although I'm only dedicated to having a small number of cards so EDP gets my gas, groceries, and general spend. I can understand for those with multiple cards and programs not using it as often.

Re: Tired of the EDP Shot Clock.........30 swipes

I didn't think it was that hard to hit 30 swipes. My statement doesn't close until 1/29/17 and I'm already 39 swipes with 5 pending. I had 80 transactions last statement as well. I do get my Speedway coffee on it 5 days a week though so I'm almost guaranteed to hit it. Even if I took that away, this is our Grocery, Gas, and "Other" category card since this gets us the most rewards than any other card I have. I'm closing my PRG before the AF hits as it serves me no purpose since Plat went to 5x Airfare and I'd gain more (now) putting restaurant on my EDP after the PRG AF.

I guess it's best to make sure (after the bonus of course) you can hit the 30 swipes otherwise the card is not as useful otherwise! Smiley Happy
