According to e.g., http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea.com/2013/07/15/is-citi-thank-you-premier-getting-devalued-again/, you used to be able to buy business class tickets at up to 3c per TYP. So certainly devalued from there (this is without transferring, just straight pay with points)

Didn't know that, wish that were still the case.
@Anonymous wrote:I don't remember any reductions but it's possible. Not sure what you mean by 'now that AA is not an option'. You could never transfer TYP to American Airlines. The only thing that is changing (and yes it is a big loss to some) is the redemption rate that you get when redeeming TYP for AA flights. It's still available but ties from 1.6 cents to 1.25 cents per point. Keep in mind that these changes don't go into effect for a year.
if you search you'll find the same things I found.
As you specify, my use of the word "devalued" can extend beyond just direct point transfer.
I don't personally care about the AA changes because I don't ever fly AA, and have been able to get in a Delta or PP lounge everwhere I go (with Amex Platinum), but the reason this worries me is more that it seems that Citi is putting this card on a downward trend. That is primarily what is causing me to think more about applying via the old 50k bonus link.
I may just wait for this supposed Chase competitor card next month in hopes that it is a better fit, as I am happy with UR.

As I have posted elsewhere I think you can't go wrong with the card especially if you get it now (preferably in branch) and then decide in a year. Of course the real value in the card is if you stay in hotels for 4 nights or more. If you do then it's a no brainer.

Wait, just so I'm clear, does this at all affect my Chase Amazon credit card? Since this is my daily I have a TON of points stacked up. If they're going to be devalued, I want to cash out TODAY!
At least currently, this applies to just UR cards, so your Amazon points are OK. Actually, I can imagine this being used to boost the Amazon card, as you can use those points 1:1 (But as you can cash out URs 1:1 as well, no real difference)
1) Make purchase on Amazon with Chase Card instead of points
2) Receive 1% cash back on purchase
3) Use UR to pay off purchase
4) Enjoy
This is a pretty huge nerf from my perspective. I rarely use my freedom card. Only for 5% categories. With the $20 redemption threshold it might take me a long time to accumulate 2000 points.
With amazon redemption it gave me an avenue to escape that redemption threshold and be able to get immediate use of my points. Now that the value is nerfed of course I won't be redeeming that way anymore.
I'll be ok for the rest of the year with Costco. Getting to 2000pts will be quite easy for the rest of the year. Next year I'm probably going to fully sd this card during non attractive quarters. The heavy use quarters I'll probably use and then make one redemption at the end of the quarter. In the past I have tried to use this card every month to keep it active and try to spur a CLI. This nerf pisses me off to a point where I won't be doing that anymore. I honestly don't care if they close my card for inactivity. Continued barriers to redemption, no CLI. My freedom card continues to disappoint.
