On my Mini Spree yesterday, I was approved for Barclay Arrival for $20K, CSP for $18K and Amex BCP for $8.5K. I also got an HD CLI from $7.1K to $16.5K. I'm waiting on a CSP Recon from $18K to $25K and an Iberia CLI from $8.5K to $15K. My plan, after these Apps & CLIs, was to hit the Garden for about a year (except for the Amex 3x CLI in 60 days). But then I started thinking. (Oh, oh...)
My credit limit, in one day, just went from $15.6K to $71.5K. If I get the CSP Recon of $7K and the Iberia CLI of $6.5K, my new CL is at $85K. Here is my dilemma. Do I go for one more major card, for $15-20K, to hit a CL of $100K? Or, do I just wait until the Amex 3x CLI in two months?
If I go for one more card, probably a cash back, which card? Chase hit TU and EX. Barclay hit TU. Amex hit EX. Should I go for a card that will probably (obviously no guarantee) hit EQ? Or won't it matter? Or, do I just go to the Garden?
Your thoughts?
Why not continue until you get declined then start your gardening might pick up 1-2 more good TLs.
hi there.
i am pretty new to this 'game' but my first questions to you would be to define your consideration criteria. In other words, what is more important, just to have the credit limits be $100k? Like a trophy? In that case I would probably just garden and boost the CL via the Amex 3x CLI.
On the other hand, do you have any "needs" that aren't being met by your current portfolio? Such as bonus categories etc? Do you value travel rewards? Maybe either add PRG to get the 3-4x MRs plus 2x gas? I am not familiar with your existing cards. Do you spend on gas? Do you have a gas bonus card? Maybe see if you can work towards an Ink card. I think one of them gives a bonus on gas purchases and you can consolidate URs with your CSP. but you may have to wait with chase since you just apped?

On one hand, I guess the $100K would be a trophy, but, more importantly, it's a higher CL that would keep the UTIL down and, therefore, the CS up. The Barclay and the CSP are both rewards cards and the BCP is 3% back on gas also. The Ink is of no help, since it is a business card. Chase was one of two HPs on both TU and EX, which is why I was looking for an EQ hitter...
I would just wait for an increase from American Express. Unless you carry a large balance and don't PIF your utilization should not really be something to worry about. Good luck on the CSP recon. If that doesn't work just give it a lot of usage I pumped 45k through it in 3 months and they did an auto 5k increase which is great for Chase since they usally HP for CLI's.

Not sure yet, but that's where I'm leaning. Thanks for the input.

I don't know what your AAoA is, but to go from $15k to over $70k in credit in 1 day is very significant. I think you are playing with fire as it is and should lay very low in the garden for 6-12 months. Just my $0.02 Goodluck either way!
If you decide to app, maybe Fidelity AMEX (2% cashback on everything), US Bank Cash+ (Two 5% Cashback categories, one 2% Category, rotates every quarter), or possibly BOA Better Balance rewards ($25-$30 cashback every quarter for carrying/reporting a balance and paying more than minimum payment).

Your scores are great, and your credit limits are wonderful, but it is my understanding that Amex will SP you frequently when you open a new account with them, and seeing all of those new, large tradelines might spook them. Barclay might also CLD or close you if they see all that new credit. I don't think it is necessarily the inquiries that matter in this case, but all the new accounts posting to your CBRs in the next month or few.
