To combine or not to combine? Advice is needed

I have 9 cards in total, getting about 6k in CLI over the last month. I have two CaptialOne cards the QS and the Platinum, both are a year old. I recently got an Amex, Barclay Apple Rewards and My BestBuy Card visa card. Utilization is hovering around 5% overall. I've been thinking for at least a month or so about combining the captialone cards into one, I got to the point of confirming but backed out. Should I just go ahead and combine them and get it over with? Or should I keep it open? I do not plan on applying for anymore cards for a while, as I have what I need. I just want to have them grow and age.

What are your reasons for not wanting to combine those cap1 accounts? I personally am planning to combine all my cap1 accounts. I want one card from them with no AF but that's just me.

If you've received your CLI from Capital one recently. It would be best to combine them now. That way in 6 months you can request a CLI on the combined card and not skip a beat.

Just scared about it, this will be my first time closing a card.

Nothing to be afraid of. Your closed card will report for 10 years.

Thank you for that suggestion! I did not think about that.

So your score won't decrease for closing?

No because it still reports. Once those 10 yrs are up you'll take a minor hit for it. Should be small though, if you're building it between now and then. Build a solid file now so it won't have an affect then.

Thank you. I feel more confident doing this.

You'll be fine, I'm closing 10 cards this year.
