Transfer of Limits Between AMEX accounts- Change in Policy?

I got the AMEX Delta Gold in April but decided in November that I really wanted the Platinum (for easier medallion qualifications and the 70,000 promo bonus going on at the time). My Gold limit was 25K and I got a limit of 5K on the Platinum.

I called last week to request a CLI on my Platinum since i was getting ready to christmas shop and go on a trip. The CLI wasn't performed since the card was only open for 30 days or so but the rep was able to move $5K from my Gold card (which is still less than 1 year) to my 30 day old Platinum. The change was immediate online and I also just got a confirmatory letter in the mail.

I'll probably end up moving most of the Gold limit to the Platinum before I close the Gold out next year but thought it was pretty cool they allowed me to move limits before standard AMEX guidelines.

Suprised they let you do it prior to 13 months.. Maybe due to being in same family of cards delta?  It has always been 13 months/statement before they will allow it typically for the donor card to give to another card.. Other card use to be two months or something, but that part went away and no restrictions on receiving card

Wow! Glad they were able to do that for you. Interesting to know they can break that guideline. I'm waiting to after my (Hopefully) 3x CLI on my SPG card (which I'll be at 14 months by then). I'll then break that into my EDP. Hopefully I don't have to wait another 120 days after my CLI to divide my limits up.

If I do have to wait, I'll def give them a ring to see if it's something they can do! Thanks for the info Smiley Happy

It's interesting you mention that, about a week ago my dad moved 15k from his EDP to his BCP, the diner card was about 6 months old, while the receiver card was 9 months old, was shocked when the system approved it but maybe they are shifting their policy..

As another data point, I tried to move 9k from my EDP to my Simply Business card and it was denied so YMMV..

I agree with CC it was probably because the 2 cards were in the same family and were both Delta cards.

I just combined my cards last month and the rep confirmed the 13 month rule was still in effect. Not exactly sure what is going on in this situation, though.

Best bet is going to be keep pumping the CLI's on the SPG and then just move a portion over to EDP as you go along.  Since you have 2 cards it's every 6 months between CLI's and since you have a higher limit on SPG you can request 3X that for a bigger net increase towards both if you shuffle the limits.  There's always the one off situation where you could call them and have them do it if both cards don't meet the criteria.
