I just got the CSP and I am planning a trip for 2014 summer (the CSP will be used for a few nights at a hyatt, seems like the best value), I also have a Freedom with a 1000 dollar CL
I am wondering if I apply for either the united or the soutwest chase credit card (will probably apply for which ever has the best bonus when I am applying next march/april)
can I tranfer the CL from the airline card to my freedom and cancel the card before the second year to avoid the AF?
Generally yes. Sometimes you are required to leave $500 on the closed card, though people who call a "consolidation" department (i think that was the name) have gotten the whole amount transferred. I closed my SW card in december and transferred 4500 of the 5000 limit to the csp.

awesome thanks
Southwest had a promo for 2 free tickets just an FYI

I'm hoping that comes back! but if not, hopfully the 30k bonus for united is still at least that much, because I can add an AU and get another 5k bonus and I already have 10k miles from a trip to Hawaii so it would 50k which is good for 2 trips(the cheaper rates), and the United card doesnt have an AF the first year
You'll also have to stop using the card at least 30 days before you want to close it. Chase won't transfer the limit of an active card and close it if there are potential transactions outstanding.
