***UPDATE*** Need Help Closing and PCing a Couple Cards

With the 1.5 through Chase Portal (hate finding award seats) and $300 travel credit with CSR, I want the card.

My reports aren't getting unfrozen for ANYTHING as I am fully committed to garden.  My total available credit will remain the same through combinations and I will actually save on AF's with the move.  I plan on closing PRG and one of my Ventures this month.

Because I don't want any HP's or new accounts, I have to close Marriott and lose the cert (I always get at least $200 for this cert)  so I can combine limits for the 10k min. I did great with low scores and a thin file, getting 5k cards from Chase, but I wish I would have waited because my last Chase approval was 14k+.

Will Chase be ok with these two PC's?

Close 6.5k Marriott and combine with 5k CSP and PC to 11.5k CSR

PC 2k Amazon to 2k FU

Re: Need Help Closing and PCing a Couple Cards

elim, a few questions. How long overall is your history with Chase? Have you used each of the cards very much? Do you carry any balances?

Also, you would be requesting what seems like a lot of moves in one fell swoop. Depending upon the answers to the questions above, I might say to move limits but not also product change and close cards at the same time. Just maybe not to do quite so many moves in one fell swoop with Chase.

The cards you are proposing to make changes with are each old enough to not raise eyebrows, certainly, but I would just consider carefully requesting Chase to make a lot of different moves at one time. That's not to say people have not done so successfully, as they have - but others have had issues. Clean and simple might be the best way to go.

Request to move lines now, then perhaps wait before requesting PC and closures all on top of moving lines. Just my thoughts.

Humu...

I have stopped all use on Marriott and Amazon expecting this move. Most of my spend has been on RC and CSP (3k per month between the two). Think I'll call and let them know "because I have RC, Marriott is obsolete. Please move limit to CSP and PC to CSR to cover the min".   Sound good?  I'll hold off on PCing AMazon to FU for awhile.

I wondered about that, I have found 3 people who have succesfully PC'd to a Freedom/CSP, etc. Most have not been allowed.

Re: Need Help Closing and PCing a Couple Cards

I realize you are >5/24, but you just missed out on the 100k bonus.  Did you at least go in branch to see if you were prequalified for the CSR?

I understand not wanting to open new accounts, and I know I have been pushing the CSR on many members here lately, but its such a good deal to pass up.  It wont be around forever.  Luckily since you did a PC to the CSR with no bonus, you are still technically eligible to apply for it, but you would need to PC that new CSR to something else like a Freedom.

Even if you are going to be spending 6k a month, surely that is not all 3x categories.  My advice, wait a few more days maybe a week, PC the CSR to the freedom since you have a freedom unlimited now, then apply for the CSR in branch.

I am wondering since this change is so new, if u went in to a branch tomorrow if you could see if you were prequalified, if they say yes, then do the above.

But really though, you did nothing wrong, and did the responsible thing by not adding another new account, no matter how tempting that bonus was.  You will also be earning more URs and they will be worth more, and with that FU your gen spending will always be worth at least 2.25% when redeemed for travel.

I would still see no reason why you would be denied for this card if you were prequalified in branch based on your scores and everything else, unless you need a mortgage asap but not from a credit union.  Credit unions are usually more lenient and you can explain that you opened the card for rewards and obviously pay it off and dont have high utilization on every card.

Regarding closing the Amex, dont be shocked if you get a retention offer.  They gave me $25 as a courtesy credit, then $75 now and $50 if I spent 500 in 60 days (or the other option was $25 then 5k mrs after spending 500 in 60 days).  If you get a retention offer of $100, you can get another $100 free jan 1, so thats $5 ahead if you needed extra time to cash out your MRs.  But yes, refining your lineup and not dabbling in so many programs is the right thing to do!

I went in branch last week (50 miles away) and it was a no-go  (15/24 which includes 2 auto loans and a refi). I will PC this card when the Bonus is good (when I'm within 5/24) and App for it and FU.

I probably won't take an offer from AMEX as I really want to scale down (and CSR works better for me).

I remember listing all the travel benefits I would like on Chase Customer Panel a few months ago.  This card came with most of them... https://www.chase.com/card-benefits/sapphirereserve/travel.

I'm also closing a Venture in a week or two, then i'll sit tight for awhile.

@Anonymous. I dont know why I had doubts elim, of course you would have checked!  Great result.  Is there a reason why you can't just combine the two ventures? 29k @ 12.9% is not too shabby.
