@UFGuy2006 wrote:**UPDATE** Just got off the phone. It looks like my savings account went dormant (no activity for 12 months) and hence was charged a dormant fee of 4.95. When that happened it brought my savings account under $25, which then systematically closed all my accounts. Just made a deposit over the phone which should reinstate the accounts over the next few days. Side note, sounds like this is a common issue for "out of staters" :-) Just glad it wasn't closed for anything other than that. Note to self: make sure to auto schedule some transactions throughout the year (even small ones).

Really weird last couple of days. Took a road trip and tried to use my AOD visa and was immediately declined. Figure I triggered a fraud alert or something which was fine, no biggie I'd deal with it when I got home. However, I'm home and logged in (after resetting my password). Account shows up as closed; after chatting with the Card Servicer they mentioned it was closed by AOD, I'll need to call them when they open tomorrow. A few data points - stellar credit, no baddies/degs, no weird high utilization, used the card for most of my daily spend and pay in full each month. I'm wondering if paying my taxes last month spooked them, or if they decided I wasn't a profitable customer. I'll report back when I connect with them, but anyone else have an experience like this?
Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good reason to stay away from them.
I wouldn't be so fast to write them off as this is the FIRST time anyone on here has posted about their account being closed.

Thanks for the update! That is very strange behavior from a credit union. I've had zero activity on my share accounts at NFCU, PenFed, and NASA for years with no issues. That is a very good thing for community members to know and keep in mind as the FOTM starts to age.
Agree. Echoing some of the above comments, glad to hear your situation was sorted out @UFGuy2006.
There are definitely some very quirky processes involved with a variety of CUs, since I've only expereinced the dormant instances on two CUs (one local, one out-of-state), but not to the point of closures, thankfully. Just something to keep in mind whenever folks decide to join different CU flavors.

Exactly. Plus, these types of DPs help us understand some of the mechanics of how some CUs operate.

Right, and almost every CU/Bank in the US has had some "badness" reported, closing accounts "for no reason", being slow about some things, being too aggressive detecting fraud, not being aggressive enough about detecting fraud, low starting CL, no CLI, etc etc.
In fact, AOD has probably had the best reputation here (once people accepted the somewhat involved application process)
The question always is whether the gain is worth the hassle. I think most with AOD would say absolutely yes!

I would agree that their good reputation is valid. The positives of this bank FAR outweigh any negatives
Well I'm glad to hear that got sorted out. I tied my Paypal to my AOD Shares account to push and pull some money through it now and then. I keep around $500 in it so I'm assuming I shouldn't have any issues either way.
They have been great to me and I don't even have the card yet. I have kasasas checking and savings which is excellent. Thier push and pull ach is great as well. You can pull money on Saturday and it is available Sunday for example.
I just prefer to not deal with places that want all kinds of documentation, not that I lie about my income, but I find it irritating most institutions tell you spousal income or income of your significant other counts for applications then (looking at you discover) won't accept it for proof of income, and no that's not necessarily the case, people with scores in my range get approved for cars with no stubs or tax returns all the time in fact I was at the Subaru dealer and they told me on the spot I was approved for a 38k subaru wrx sti with no pay stubs at all
Sweet news you got straightened out right. Thanks for sharing this experience with the forum, it will help many going forward!

You are aware that a lot of CUs are like that, right? I see NFCU & DCU also has something that is with dormant/inactive memberships. Even the ones I have, Genisys CU & MI Schools and Gov't CU also has something regarding it as well.
