Funny most IT ppl I know dont do any banking online. None at all. Interesting indeed.
I agree. I hope this isn't just empty rhetoric and actually means something.
I applaud their effort to at least admit fault and not sweep this under the rug.
I hope this results in 12 months of Free Credit Monitoring. I have already begun banking again with one of my other banks. I think will eventually move all of my money out of USAA after this.
I am a member of USAA and have a few accounts. Never heard about the security issue until I saw this posting. Glad I dont use them as my primary bank. Almost put my money back there after I saw the Secure Checking Plus with ID Theft Protection but decided against it and cancelled the service after 3 days.

I'm in IT, I do use (exclusively) online banking, as it avoids the need to interact.with what's the word, you know, oh, other people.
But, unfortunately, I'm not sure how much protection being offline really is. All banking is heavily computerized, so even if you believe that your accounts "live" on servers that are fully separated from the internet, it's hard to be sure, or that someone somewhere has found a weakness in another bank's security that sends an ACH transaction to empty your account. Or find your SSN etc.
Yes, it probably DOES reduce the risk, but not sure how much compared to the inconvenience.
