US BANK Secured Visa Graduation!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some dp's in case someone else is impatiently waiting for US Bank to graduate them.

First off, I want to say thank you to everyone in the community that has shared their experience and gave wonderful advice.

You all have been so helpful with my rebuild. Heart

Yesterday I received an unexpected email congratulating me on my upgrade to Platinum visa. This was not initiated from me. I've never actually even called US Bank since I got the card in April 2021. I wanted to get a new card for my rebuild, and considered this my best bet with a $1,400 school tuition bill in collections, and $13,000 vehicle charge-off still reporting on my thin profile at the time.

Back in February (of this year) I noticed a button my US Bank account that said "track my credit". It originally said my account was under review for graduation that month. Well February no luck... March same thing.... April same thing.... and finally this month I was graduated!

I had 2 cards reporting high utilization (71% and 93%) during those months. Paid those 2 cards down in April (now 26% and 45%) which helped my overall utilization. The $1,400 collections fell off in March so I believed that helped me as well. The auto charge-off is almost 7 years old. It is set to fall off this year in November. There is no longer a balance reporting to it. I'm not sure when the balance stopped reporting... this could have been before or after I got the card. I believe US Bank decided not to hold that against me since it's so old.

During my rebuild I also got the secured Discover card back in 2018 with a $700 limit. That card unsecured in 2021 right after I got the US bank secured card. When that card was unsecured my limit was raised to $1,800 and then again in 2022 to $3,400. I started off my rebuild in 2018 with a CapOne Platinum at $300 limit which has since grown to $4,300. Some other cards on my profile are CapOne SavorOne SL $3,000. Bank of America BankAmericard SL $500 and now at $1,000 limit, and Nordstrom Visa SL $1500 now at $2,000. A few store cards that I don't use and some subprime lender cards like Indigo that I got back in 2020 with very small limits that I am periodically closing as my new accounts age a little. I'm no longer "desperate" for new accounts so I am solely focusing on obtaining 1 card a year that I will keep.

I got that US Bank secured in hopes one I could product change it to the Cash+.

As of March 2023:

0 collections and 0 public records

Last late payment: 3 years, 9 months ago: personal loan that has since been paid off  and some late student loan payments

0 missed/late payments: all my current credit cards and my new auto loan

Overlall credit utilization: 45%

Only 3 hard inquires in the last 24 months

Fico 8 scores as today EQ 667 / TU 668 / Ex 671

The card as of right now when I login still says it's a secured visa. I believe the system on my end just hasn't updated yet. The card it still has the $500 limit that I put down as the security deposit. The card number as of right now is also still the same.

I'm not expecting an increase right now considering my utilization is still high. I'm planning on making another large payment on those 2 credit card accounts next month that should drop my utilization under 20% according to the utilization calculator I have been using. If no go on the increase I'll give it good 6 months and wait for that charge-off to fall off before I call for a request.

But I will let you know what the updates are between now and then! And once again, thank you everyone!!!

Re: US BANK Secured Visa Graduation!

Update: I logged into my account and the account type as of yesterday has been changed from U.S. Bank Secured Visa to U.S Bank Visa Platinum. My email didn't indicate if I am going to receive a new card or not. So far everything else on the account still looks the same as far as card number and credit limit are concerned. I am expecting a check in the mail for my security deposit in the next 2 billing cycles. I will let everyone know if I receive anything else in the mail, and/or anything changes.

Congratulations on your successful rebuild journey. U.S. Bank is pretty conservative, in general, so any love from them at all indicates you are moving in a positive direction.

Thank you! @PayAndProsper And yes that is what I've heard about US Bank. I hope I continue to make progress with them, because I have my eye on a couple of their cash back cards in the future.
