US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

So I looked through the forum and couldn't find anything specifically to answer this question.

After reading about people who have multiple's of a specific card, it made me wonder "Why?"

Some people show 3 copies of the Chase Freedom in their sig's as well as multiples of other high-profile cards and I really didn't understand the purpose of having multiples. I didn't even realize this was allowed. Evidently, it must be some churning method or something to that effect, because it would be redundant to have 3 copies of Freedom for the 5% category.....unless, that person really spends A LOT of money on Gas or Restaurants, etc. (which is entirely plausible) and needs more than the quarterly cap.

So I began to think about the US Bank Cash+ card... And wondered if US Bank allows someone to have multiple cards of the Cash+ Rewards?  This would certainly open a lot of doors, as it would allow for one to choose several different 5% categories that they could keep static year-round. Just 2 cards would allow for 4 categories.....(3 cards/6 categories would just be self-indugent. lol)

Um.....yes please....

1: Utilities

2: Cell phones

3: Internet/Cable (will be replacing Rental Cars category soon)

4: Fast Food

(5: Electronics Stores)

(6: Movie Theatres)

Does anyone have multiple cards for Cash+ , or does anyone know if US Bank even allows for this? If so, how long do you have to wait to apply for a 2nd card, and does it require that you cap the category every quarter on the 1st card before the bank will even consider allowing it?

Basically, ......how the heck do people do this?  What requirements, restrictions, etc?

Re: US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

Some had multiple freedom card from downgrading sapphire cards.

I usually just get my family member to get a second card if I really need it.

I don't have any usb cards, so don't know if they allow, I guess you can always call in and ask.

Re: US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

I can say with pretty good certainty that they wouldn't require you to hit a cap before allowing another card. After all, it's not like they want you to hit the cap. They want you to get as few rewards as possible - less for them to pay out!

I have heard of multiple Cash+ cards. Unsure of specifics on timing, etc but I think you can definitely apply for more than one. I wouldn't do it on the same day or anything like that, but several months apart may work. Just keep in mind US Bank in general is pretty conservative.

@kdm31091

Yeah I keep hearing about how conservative they are...at this point I'm simply trying to get approved for my first one. But that's another point regarding being approved for a 2nd card down the road (ie: 12 mths).....is it an issue where you would need to lobby with them to provide evidence for the "need" of a 2nd card? Or is it simply a cut-and-dry new application for a new card with no memory of the 1st, as long as there are no negatives or balances due on the 1st one?

Since I didn't realize you could have multiples of any card until now, I'm just wondering about the process and what hoops must be jumped through, timing, length of relationship with a bank, etc.  And since it would be a 2nd card with simply an entirely different acct. # , how is it differentiated since it is associated with the same name of that person (reporting, etc.) Those are the kind of questions I'm curious about.

And then of course, any specifics related to US Bank itself.... certainly every bank is different.

Re: US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

I opened one Cash+ and the US Bank Amex card in Dec 2017. In January 2019 upon seeing that they were adding the 5% category for TV/Internet/streaming I called and asked if I could product change my Amex card(very little use) into a second Cash+ and they allowed it so now I have 5% on Cell Phone/Utilities/TV,Internet streaming/Movie Theatres/Fast food. I think it will be nice as not alot of cards give 5% for these categories

Sorry not fast food as I will take that off starting in April when the TV category goes into effect, but the point is it is possible

@Demonhusker

Hmmm, well that begs the question.....were you able to do this only as the result of the PC? Or would it be possible as a straight up new application?  Because I would have nothing to PC, (if I get approved in April for the Cash+) ....no other cards with US Bank.

Thanks for that input......at least I know it is allowed through US Bank. And I agree 100%....covering all those categories @5% is sexy as Lexy. That's exactly what I would be wanting to achieve. I'm a little jealous.

Re: US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

I never even considered the possibility of having two Cash+ cards, which is odd, because I have two Discover It cards!  I had read about getting the second Discover It card on these forums, and went for it after my first card was a year old so that I could get a second year of double cash back.

Having four 5% categories is even better!  I'm very curious if anyone has gotten the second Cash+ card by just applying as opposed to doing a product change, as I have no other US Bank products to PC.  I'd actually be willing to app another of their cards just to be able to product change it to a Cash+ later, but I imagine they'd make you wait awhile before letting you do that, and it'd be better if I could just app for it.

Re: US Bank Cash+ Multiple Cards/Copies

I have 2 Cash+ cards.  The first one I cold-apped for in 2015 iirc, and was approved on recon with a SL of $500 (have since received a HP-based CLI to $4000).  The second Cash+ I received in 2017 after receiving a pre-approval mailer from US Bank, which I apped for, and received instant approval with a SL of $24k.  Between both cards, I have 5% categories in fast food, cell phones, cable TV, and utilities.  The 5% category for ground transportation is also nice because I believe you can get 5% cash back for taxis, trains, etc., but I since cable TV nets more cashback on a monthly basis than ground transportation, I switched my 5% categories for the upcoming quarter so that I am now using the cable TV category.

Former cards:
DMB Titanium MC @ 90-day, 0% grace period | $4k BEFCU MC @ 5.49% F | $21.9k Citi DPR @ 5.99% F | Chase Platinum MC @ Prime+1.67%
