Thanks Guardian. I have decided to app to them tonight. I am not afraid of the hard inq, but I am afraid they'll see that I'm at 99% usage on the AMEX due to the balance chasing. All my other accts (Nords, Discover, and several dept. store cards) are not maxed out and I've got 20 years history with no lates. I just hope hope hope they know about Amex and the CLD game. I really need to establish with another card in hopes of adding more CL to help with my utilization due to the Amex bs.
Fingers crossed!!

They are conservative but they should look at your whole picture which seems to be great and shouldn't hold that one 99% on Amex against you too hard, so try not to worry too much until you have to
Fingers cross and best of luck to you, let us know how it goes and I hope you get what you want.
Well crumbs, I got the "we'll write to you in 7-10 days with our decision" thing.
I wonder if that is because at one time I had the security block on my credit because my purse was stolen (it's been a long time). I thought since I had a pre-qual offer it wouldn't do that - but anyway.
If they don't approve I will not be apping to anyone for a very long time.

I don't know of any specific backdoor number, but it may be worth calling them to see if there's any more information they require, etc - their CSRs are very, very nice, and you may be able to get some information if you call. I know when I applied for my initial secured card with them, I called because I'd heard nothing at all after about three weeks. They were very helpful, went to some trouble to pull up all my information even though it wasn't immediately coming up in their system, and then found out that a letter had just been sent to me requesting more information. They were able to figure out everything they needed over the phone, and approved the application and opened up my account. Sure enough, a couple of days later I got a letter asking me to call them to verify information (this letter obviously sent before I'd called them), and a day or so after that, my card arrived in the mail.
Different situation, I know, as mine was a secured card and it wasn't preapproved, and yours is a regular card from a preapproval offer, but... just wanted to say that that message might well be nothing to do with a denial and everything to do with them just wanting to check things out a bit more. Might as well give them a call and see what you can find out!
Good luck! Hope you get the card, I have to say US Bank are great. Very happy with them indeed!![]()

Wow, that sucks, I am sorry to hear it but the 7-10 is not always a decline. In two cases that I know for sure, they sent a followup to get more information. And yes, it happend to those who had fraud alerts on their account. I have them on all 3 just to make it more difficult to obtain credit to protect myself, in fact that's how most "identity protection" companies do it. Here is wishing you the best outcome.

I get the impression they're more of a "we're going to get a real, live person, rather than a computer program, to have a look at your application and get back to you" type of bank than a lot of others. And I don't think that's a bad thing, and definitely not a reason to assume automatic denial. Probably something to do with the fraud alerts... again, good luck, I hope you get it! They are good.
(edited to admit that yep, I know the above reply is confusing and sounds like I think Guardian is the one applying here, and to confirm that the last bit is obviously addressed solely to Cheezy!) ![]()
@fevmlo, you are fine, I wasn't confused and understood who you mean ![]()
@cheezy, agreed, no need to worry yet, there is so much that could be going on here and fevmlo made alot of good points.

US Bank: 800-947-1444 (Underwriting) ![]()
Good luck!!
Thanks for that number.
I just called and asked if there was anything I could do to speed along the process, if they needed anything I could provide to them. She said it looks like it is already to the verification department and nothing I can do will speed it along. It got there today and will take 3-5 business days.
Rats. I hope this isn't a denial. I will feel really crushed; never used to get denials from anyone before AMEX started playing the game with me.
