what exactly is the "balance chasing" on Amex that you refer to? do any other banks do this?

I can't speak for other banks because none of my other accounts are doing this. Amex is chasing my balance by reducing my credit line approximately every 60-90 days.  I orig had 25K line with them and the cut that in half down to just about my balance owed. Now each time I get ahead (let's say I get $1K paid down), they drop the line again to just above what I owe.  Each time they send me a new love note explaining why they've decided to do this.  The last one mentioned that I had an "undesireable" auto loan (my husband had a car loan with CapOne for about 6 mos).  Chasing the balance, about as evil as chasing the dragon.

Basically this happnes when you pay down your balance and they cut the limit to near the new balance and then you pay more and they keep cutting it near your balance until they get to the desired lower limit that they want you to have. It is dispicable since it causes the person to show very high usage and ratio as a result and affects the score dramatically. Its shameful.

Re: US Bank; What to do, what to do?

I am thinking about apping, trying to enter another bucket. Does anyone know what they pull in MD, if eq that would be great, I have zero inquires and a 740 with 27% utl. I could wait about a month and have a 6%utl, but I am impatient. This would be number six already have Chase Freedom, BOA Amex, Macy Sig Visa, and two crap ones

Want to scrap the cap ones but has a six and 4 year history

Agreed, they are awesome. You will be happy with them, as long as you treat them right, they will treat you right.

No guarantee but you are likely to get hit with a EQ inquiry since they operate out of the Minneapolis Minnesota but if they feel extra evaluation is necessary, they COULD hit you with a TU as well. They are not a big fan of EX so its "generally" safe to assume they won't hit that.

@Anonymous: @Anonymous, what did they hit you with? @MidnightVoice, any ideas? @oracles, what did they hit you with? see if we can get an unofficial poll of our own here.

MidWest, EQ
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
