I applied for the US bank Perks + Visa Signature Card (I'm trying to help my mom transfer a few cc balances) so I apped with her as a joint
It was denied, so I called the number on the website 800-947-1444 (it said it was underwriting) and I said :Hi I'm calling to check on the status of my application" I already knew it said "unable to approve at this time", or something to that matter after I submitted my online application.
When I spoke to the guy at US Bank, he says "You're score is fine, but you have a few items in dispute at this time so that's why we cannot approve the application"
They hard pulled TU, nothing on Equifax or Experian. But the thing is, I'm not disputing anything on my credit reports. I kindly said "Thank you for your time" and hung up.
Is that just a nice way for them to say "you've been declined"?
What about your mom's CR?
Not a thing in dispute on hers either. So strange. I should have just asked the guy I was speaking with, but he was so unfriendly that I just hid my tail and ran ![]()

If it were me I'd be curious and call back and speak with a different rep but I'm sort of admittedly interested in denial reasons especially when they're a little wierd like that.

Thank you for the info
Both of our ARS files are frozen as of 2 weeks ago. But I've read that this does not affect credit approvals. Although, I could be wrong. Could someone verify?

Thanks, that's the little push I needed! Calling again now ![]()
I called back, and got the same guy (ughhh) who was actually nicer this time. He appologized for the "incorrect" response of "items in dispute". The application was declined due to 20 new accounts in the last 6 months (yes, I was one of those "rebuilding credit, shopping cart trick peeps" that upon re-building my credit, opened a ton of retail store credit cards after getting the "pre-approval pop-up" via the shopping cart trick. Ihave since closed 3 of those (linen source, bon ton, buckle) there are many more I don't mind closing (true value, one stop plus, beall's florida, just paid balance in full formy my sony visa through cap1 off and closing that when it reports a $0 balance to all 3 credit bureau's)
I guess I can't blame the bank for the denial, he kind of put things in perspective when I actually heard "You've opened 20 new accounts in the past 6 months"
It's back and forth with the whole closing accounts that I will never use. I read good things, and I hear not so good things about closing credit cards, but at the same time, they didn't even bother to pull my mom's information even though I apped as joint.

WOW
.........You really need to garden with that many new accounts.
You should also freeze your IDA account before applying to US bank, did you try that?
