No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Is there a way to work around this? Or is the checking account not available, but the credit cards are? Because altitude go, cash+, and the shopper are all cards I would seriously want in my repertoire
Likely just no branches. Credit cards are not geofenced iirc.
Only their bank accounts are unavailable if you live in a state without branches. Credit cards (and brokerage accounts, which is how I got in with them) are available in all states. Interestingly, if you already have some account with them, credit card etc, then you are able to open a checking or savings account regardless of state. I opened a few brokerage account with them in order to become able to open a checking account for the bank bonus at the time. I also live in Texas.

RIght, the restriction is pretty weak: sorry no bank account for you, but you can get a credit card. Then later: as you have a credit card with us you are welcome to open a bank account.
The us b checking is no fee if you have their credit card too. They give good sub. $500 for checking, another $500 for the connect card.
US Bank is a relationship one. To increase the chance of CC approval, several people suggest to open a checking first to create a relationship, to increase the CC approval chance. For you, it seems to be reverse. You may apply for CC and after creating a relationship, apply for checking.
I tried to open a checking the other day also and was no approved. I called in, they said since there was no bank within 15 miles of my home address, I was not eligible. They said if I opened a credit card with them, then I could open a checking account. I did inquire if I was say...roadtripping and ran across a US Bank branch could I open a checking account without a CC - CS said that depends on branch policy.
Can get a bank account with them in TX if you say have state farm pretty easily just go through that route if you want one and have SF insurance. How I opened an account in FL easily. Granted a work around but a decent amoutn of people are likely insured with SF. Or just if on vacation obviously can open one through that method by going in branch as well.
Once you get approved for a US Bank Credit Card, you can open a deposit account. Their standard " Goodly, Smartly, Yummy checking account" is free when you have a credit card, too!
I started with a US Bank credit card before going for the checking bonus since I live in FL and also have no branches near me.
