AFAIK they don't have annual checking amount fees. Their Bank Smartly checking page gives three ways to get the $6.95 monthly fee waved:
Now that I have a no-AF US Bank credit card (Cash+), I intend to keep it forever so I can keep my free checking!

You may also qualify if you’re a member any one of our special customer groups including youth age13 to 24, seniors age 65 and greater, military personnel and more.
A little age discrimination there. I can confirm they waive the fee for those of us who are old.
I was trying to reply to the person who said they started their USB relationship with a brokerage account. I have no clue how to quote someone like you just did to my response. The brokerage account has a $50 AF unless you have $250k+ in assets with USB. I was wondering if they could waive the AF for the first year out of goodwill or something.
If you're out of footprint, apping for a credit card is probably the way to go. I don't know if any of their cards are easier or harder to get.
