So I applied and was approved for the card a few days ago. I know it says I get points after first purchase and after paying the annual fee. I don’t have the card yet but I was wondering:
1: Points after first purchase- so I can buy anything small (coffee) and get these points or is there something im missing?
2: annual fee – when is this due? Do I have to wait a year to get the fee and pay it?
This card seems too good to be true. I fly a lot of American Airlines and would love these points ASAP.

The purchase can be any amount. The AF will show up in the first month just before your statement cuts and will be due then. After you pay that and the purchase you'll get the 50,000 mikes fairly quickly.
This offer is a great deal and probably one of the best you'll ever see. Congrats on the approval.

Congratulations on your new card!
You will get the points after you make your first purchase AND pay the annual fee, which will be put on your very first billing statement. So if you buy a cup of coffee for $1 and nothing else for the whole month, pay that and the $89 fee and they'll credit you the 50,000 points. It might take a few weeks altogether, but it will be worth it if you'll use them.
Awsome, thanks all.
I have 2 of them. The AF will post before you even get the card. Also, don't expect the points to post right after your payment and purchase...It might take a little longer than that.

Mine experience was very different. AF didn't show up until just before first statement cut and miles posted just after the statement.
How long did you wait between the two cards?
don't forget to check if the paperless statement offer is still around on us airways site, so it would technically reduce the af from 89 to 64 dollars .
I have the card since jan 13,the AF still not showing up, so does the Welcome kit. And it's already 4 weeks, contacting barclay twice but still waiting. Ineed that companion ticket asap for springbreak travel. Anyone know how soon i can receive the welcome kit?

Sorry Irish. I didnt get the bonus yet. My AF posted 2 days after the accounts were open. I made a purchase on both cards and paid the entire balance sometime last week. Still waiting on the bonus. I'll obviously be canceling the cards. I dont need them.
My AF posted within two weeks. My welcome kit took 6 weeks to arrive. I paid for my one purchase and AF as soon as it posted.
If if the companion tix were transferable, that would be great.
