Re: USAA Special Offer Found this AM

I didn't see what was special with this offer - the pictured card always offers 1.5% rewards.

The card wasn't preapproved, only an encouragement to apply, so I didn't apply.

I was going to garden... Honest!

Re: USAA Special Offer Found this AM

ditto,  my offers normally have a solid APR on the offers tab.  I haven't had one in 10 months and don't think i will for awhile.  I'm into USAA for 31k and I think that may be my exposure. (20k auto loan / 17k balance,  11k CC / $300 balance).

Re: USAA Special Offer Found this AM

While some people have heart throbs over USAA, remember their redemption rates! In fact ... that applies to other lenders ... the bottom line is do you do well redeeming your rewards for the things you want? That is the real bottom line!!! Example, I earn 2.25 on groceries and gas on my USAA American Express Card and it redeems for cash at 0.50. Many way better options in the market place for at least the cash option such as Citi Bank's Double Cash Master Card.

Re: USAA Special Offer Found this AM

It's not a bad card, but unless you have a specific immediate need for a 1.5% general spend card I would honestly wait for an 'offer' with a set APR - those are generally solid.

My USAA card isn't my daily go-to card, but it definitely has it's place.  It's attached to my checking for overdraft protection, which I've never had to use, but if something went haywire it would be there (and it's free - no service charge for using other than the standard daily interest on the advance).  You can also take no-fee cash advances from your USAA credit card into your USAA checking up to $2500 per day, which again I've never had to use, but it's nice knowing it's there in a pinch.

Also, with USAA cards the APR is the same for purchases and advances, so for however long you owed the money the APR would be decent.

If you're wanting to specifically chase rewards there are probably better options with simpler redemption methods (Capital One), but the other 'perks' make my USAA card useful to me.

(Side note:  If you need a MasterCard specifically, don't get this card.  In the coming months, USAA is changing all their MasterCard accounts over to Visa - even their debit cards.  If you were to get this particular card now, after the change it will be identical in terms, only as a Visa with a different account number.)

Re: USAA Special Offer Found this AM

Thank you all.  I saw it was listed as a "special offer" because of the 0%.

Due to lackluster responses, I will reexamine any decision to post what little I find on the Internet as my intention to spread what I thought may be special, has been interpreted as "Who Cares?"

Merry Christmas, regardless and thank you, I do need a break from this site.

While I was familiar with the offer (I often 'troll' the USAA site after looking over my accounts) I'm thankful you brought attention to it here.

It's likely there are folks who maybe are USAA members, but don't actively visit the site (maybe they only have insurance?) and without someone talking about the various promotions here they would have no way to find out about them.

I understand needing a break (I feel that way sometimes myself) but please don't feel your thread wasn't useful or appreciated... it definitely was both.  If I came across as lacking enthusiasm I apologize - that was certainly not my intention - if anything, I just wanted to stress the other virtues of having a USAA card in addition to the rewards.

That being said, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays as well!

Hey, I can't get away (CL stuff).  You should see some of the responses to posts I made.  I thought this was worth noting, because my sis has USAA membership through her ex husband.  I posted a few topics, some with equally lackluster results.  It's the inter webs man, happy holidays!
