Re: USAA & NFCU!!! Please Help!

I completely understand what you are saying.  This is my first time ever with a secured card.  If you are patient to wait on scores to improve then that is all well but my problem is without any credit cards my scores are only going to improve so much so I had to do something.  I felt a secured credit card with a reputable place like USAA was much better than an un-secured card with somewhere like Credit One, First Premier, etc  My score has already increased just since my new card reported.  I plan to get one more secured card from a small local bank and then will wait about 6 months to a year and check my scores then.

Starting Scores 10/12: EQ 460 (FICO)/TU 502 (FAKO)/EX 474 (FAKO)
(7/14): EQ 572 (FICO)/TU 624 (FICO)/ EX 612 (FICO)

Current (2016): EQ 605 (FICO)/TU 657 (FICO)/EX 646 (FICO)

ditch the First Premiers like others have said, and get a Digital Credit union secured cards cause they graduate with a masters =)   and Navy when you can and also try to request backdating on a forbearance / deferrence to delete your late student loans payments. it can be done.

Re: USAA & NFCU!!! Please Help!

I wish I knew before! I never knew about secured cards before obtaining my infamous FP CCs. Lol. But completely understand your situation though. I would do the same. Had to learn the hard way that the reputation of you having a certain card could hinder your chances at some prime cards. If I had the money though I would definitely put the maximum allowed on two of the best most reputable secured CCs, then sit on 5 total CCs for a FEW years at least. I'm simply trying to finish cleaning up credit, but first want to obtain 2 reputable cards with 4 figure limits or the ability to quickly grow(hence my interest in USAA and NFCU), and another auto loan before hitting the garden for a few years, then going for mortgage after that...

Thanks for info! But won't be ditching FP yet buddy. They are 2 of my longest open accounts! Lol. Also again, I do not have the extra funds to put into a secured card, and likely would not if I did. Not knocking secured cards, its just that I will soon have a great chance at approval with unsecured NFCU and USAA so it wouldn't make sense to go secured route if not necessary. Not sure who the student loan advice was for? I already paid that off with no lates 8 years ago. Still reporting positive data though for ten years..

Re: USAA & NFCU!!! Please Help!

Bumping again... Seeking advice on my original question...

USAA & NFCU "what was everyone's credit file when they were approved for these? Credit scores, utilization levels, inquiries, late payments, collections?

By comparison to my credit file: EQ 531 EXP 580 TRANS 602 (11-08-12) fakos, was just 524, 530, 564 two weeks ago before I paid down maxed out cards to 59%, expecting bigger rise in scores after I pay off balances in full next week

Revolving: 2 First Premiers cards 2011 & 2012 - $300 limits each, 3 store charge cards 2012 - $400, $300, $500 respectively, never late on ANY...

Installments: 2012 personal loan $1500/$1800 - never late, 2008 auto loan $0/$9733 - 3 30day lates and 2 60day lates, 2004 student loan $0/$1400 - never late, 2011 closed personal loan $0/$1400 - never late, 2008 closed auto loan $0/$9733 - never late

Collections: 3 total left, $279 - 2008, $75 - 2006, $307 - 2010

I was approved for both the USAA AMEX and USAA Rewards MC with scores in the mid 600's for $4K each with three judgments, 3 30 days nearly hitting the 7 year mark.  I only had my BBRZMC with a $500 limit a Walmart with $300, and my HSN with $700.  As well as my Chase auto loan.  They pulled EQ for both cards opened about 2 months apart.  Good luck in your apping.
