Does anyone know if you have to have an account with US bank to apply for their credit cards ? I'm looking into the U.S. bank cash plus Visa card. Anyone have then card ? Thanks !

No, but don't expect an instant approval.
Maybe i got in on a back door with an REI VIsa sig card, and the transistion from ViSA to MC. I responded to a mail offer in 2012, got instant approval online, but didn't get the CL until the card arrived. 6K straight out of grad school (with bad CC debt and student loans) and only 1 month on a job. In the last two years, I've got a Kroger Rewards, with a 6.5K limit, a second REI MC with a 6K limit for a bal xfer, and today received a 4k bump on my first REI MC to 10K. In my experience, though i've had trouble with util in the past, I've never missed a payment and have kept my oldest cards open almost 15 years, US BANK values making your payments more than any other issuer, imo. I have no accounts other than the three CC, with a combined limit of 22.5K.

A banking relationship is not necessary, but it did help me secure my approval a long time ago. The reason that U.S. Bank took the online apply option away some time ago was to have folks come in to apply and open a checking/saving account along with it; since U.S. Bank offers free checking if you have a LOC with them.
I believe that they have opened up online application since them. Like others have said, majority of the time there is no instant approval and it goes in for manual review.
Best of luck to you if you choose to apply!

I had no prior accounts with US Bank. I still only have their credit cards. They manually review 90% of applications.
Good Luck if you apply!
BTW, applied for Cash+ but was offered the Cash Rewards instead. When can I applied for the + again?

Right, no need for banking relationship. We have two (my wife's got instant approval from what I remember, I found out that I got mine when it arrived in the mail after about 2 weeks)
If you go in to open an account you could get pre qualified and it will show you all the cards and limits you are pre qalified for. Then you could choose the card you like the most. Im a fan of the perks+ myself.
