Understanding CITI.

So today I received a "pre-selected" offer from CITI for the Custom Cash card,  I really should be gardening since the X1card approval . But I figured what the hell, since I already have a somewhat thin relationship with CITI with the Macy card and CITI Diamond Secured that I had since 2016 that they still will not graduate , but that's another story lol. So I know from reading the forum don't take pre-selected offers seriously. I figured why not . And boom was approved . So it brings me back to the topic . Why would they hold my CITI secured deposit for another year to prove myself , but now approve me for the custom cash card . So what happens to my CITI secured ? Will they be like oh let's graduate it or just hold the deposit for another year despite already approving me for a one of their main cards ?

DP for anyone interested lol . Total shocker

2500 CL

they pulled Experian score is at 681 due to 12 new accounts / inquiries in the past 24 months, 5 new accounts this year .
Only negative on my profile is a paid Verizon collection back in 2018 that occurred while oh FMLA .  With that said I'm just shocked on the approval . Also with the 5 new accounts this year , I also closed all my Synch accounts due to mid cycle reporting and CLD randomly .

Because that secured product is evaluated on a different tranche spanning the time of when credit profile was less than stellar.

The new product you applied and were approved for was based upon recent UW criteria. Also, the Macy's CC is managed and serviced by a different Citi division so they don't interface with each other.

Since you just obtained Custom Cash, you have the option to either let your secured continue on its path to eventually become unsecured or close it and get your funds back. The Custom Cash approval in no way influences the actions of the other card, unfortunately.

Yeah that makes sense, definitely a different profile back then compared to now . And yeah I figured Ive had the secured card for so long , I will just keep it till I get bored with it lol. I primarily use it for Paying for Gas at the pump or car washes . Since it's just 200 limit.  But yeah I just wonder if next year they will keep my deposit despite now getting approved for the custom cash

Re: Understanding CITI.

Isn't it safe to say if they haven't unsecured it after 5 yrs they probably never will?  This kinda seems worse than Capital One bucketing.
