Unsecured Card Help Please

we are trying to find an unsecured credit card with no luck.  any advise would be greatly appreciated.  we discharged BK 8/2007.  our scores are as of 10/9 but should be higher.  EX and EQ disputes are complete or almost complete.  Just started TU disputes.  he also has 4 months of auto loan with wells fargo reporting pays as agreed now.

self                           husband
EX   564                   555
EQ  524                   520
TU   534                   481

I thought the scores were pretty good for just coming out of BK, but we have appled for cap 1 (denied), hooters (denied), orchard (approved him for secured but don't accept debit cards for the savings account), first premier (approved him for 200 with almost the same in fees after they receive the processing fee and denied me), new mellinium fees are just too high.

I am trying to save the First Premier as a last resort but don't want to do too many more pulls.

I applied for him a cc that offered him a 1/2 secured, but didn't write it down and now can't find it.  anyone know who it might have been?

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

I would go to your local Credit Union.  They tend to be a little more friendly.

Starting Score: 583 EQ, 612 EX, 569 TU
Current Score: 658 EQ, 648 EX, 618 TU
Goal Score: 720 EQ, 720 EX, 720 TU

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

Try BOA, just app with them and they may counter with that 99/500 thing they have.  I don't know if there are any fees with it or how it works but I have seen it a lot on the boards, so someone here will know the details.

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

Hello,

Try this link, BK Friendly Credit Cards List:

Hopefully it will have something that can/will help you and your husband.

I also noticed that you said you applied for a CC for your husband but didnt write down the information?  What you should be able to do is check your husband's recent credit report and check the inquires.  If the new CCC hit him up with and inquiry, it should be notated on there, with POC information.

Have a great day,

Robo

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

thank you everyone.  I chatted with a BOA rep last night and think they may have had the partially secured card we were offered.  going to call them this afternoon to verify.

also found a website address on this site that gave a link to search for cards by FICO numbers.  It also gave me Dillards and ZionsBank Visa but I haven't applied for them yet.  Applied for the Target Red card and it said had to verify information and would receive a response in 2 weeks.

thank you.

I think you'll have good luck on that boa card.  Post back and let us know how it went!

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

I was offered the $99/$500 card from BoA with scores not that much better than your's and it is the best sub prime card out there.   Annual fee of only $29.    I would stay as far away from the other sub prime cards that offer you an unsecured card that normally have a very low CL and insane fee's on everything.  Application fee's, processing fee's, insane high annual fee's.   In the end  it's just not worth it and are throwing money away.

My advice would be if you are not offered the $99/$500 card from BoA than I would just do a secured card with them or Orchard, those two offer the lowest annual fee's.    Don't do the Premier's or the Credit One's etc.  just to say you have an unsecured card.   They are just not worth it.   It'll be years before you see any kind of credit line increase and will be stuck paying those insane fee's for as long as you have the card.   Sometimes you have to take baby steps and a secured card is not a bad way to get back into the game.

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

we called boa to see if they could find the application from a couple weeks ago, but no such luck.  they wanted to take another app on the phone but couldn't tell us anymore info on the partially secured card or the 99/500. so we stopped.  maybe it was just the rep we had on the phone.  since the other offer was on line, I thought it would be best to go there.

we don't mind a secured card but do want to avoid all those fees.  I don't mind a monthly fee if it is small, but they make their real money off interest.  I think that should be enough.

found out today Cap 1 pulled TU so that is why we were denied.  reason too many collections and judgments.  BK not a reason.  we just submitted our disputes on it monday.  TU doesn't want to give you your report very easily.

thanks for all your help.  trying to reach 620 as soon as possible.  need to buy a house so we can get back to making lots of money.  people sure do like to fish, and fishermen need sinkers.

Re: Unsecured Card Help Please

I chatted with a BOA advisor on line last night and they told me you have to be out of BK for at least 10 years! seems a little out of line, but their rules!
