Might be worth trying one or two more times! I had to recon twice to get my Sallie Mae with Barclay. The first rep just wasn't having it (and seemed annoyed that I called so close to closing time) but the second one was much friendlier and actually went over my credit report with me. He asked a few employment questions and approved me! I've seen people get approved on the third recon as well! (ymmv)

You've already taken the HP, might as well try a few more times before calling it quits!

*sigh* Decided to try and push my luck. Applied for NFL Extra Points Visa (huge fan) and received the message listed below. Smiley Sad Football season is finally here, all I wanted is one more CC and a few discounts at nflshop.com! That's what I get. Researched the card online and after reading through a ton of reviews people with low scores/limited history seemed to be approved fairly often. Thought I had a decent chance. Now I'll sit here twiddling my thumbs and biting my nails waiting on the denial letter and/or email to arrive. Second HP for TU totally wasted. Awesome...

Update - So I was denied for the card. The reason they gave is *Insufficient number of credit cards on credit report* umm yea I know......kind of thought you could help me with that problem Smiley Mad This is the most frustrating part of building credit to me. When you're starting fresh no one wants to give you a card unless you already have a history of cards and in order to get to that point you either have to jump through the secured hoops, or do some joint application nonsense neither of which appeal to me. So I've learned my lesson! No more HP, no checking pre-qualifying sites, no worrying about applying for anything else just gardening. Heavy use through the Chase and little use on the Platinum card. Maybe that will give Capital One enough incentive to increase my limit to something decent around the 5th statement, maybe Smiley Very Happy Not the outcome I was hoping for but its OK! Need to be thankful for what I have and relax. Thanks everyone

That denial reason is like throwing a dart blindfolded!  I'm sorry, you could try to recon again.  Some have had luck, some have not.

Thanks you guys. I'll consider trying to recon later on this week. Not too fond of rejection if I call now I may not have the best attitude lol Need to nurse my wounds for a second. I really wanted this card. But its ok Smiley Happy I'll be fine around Thursday and call with a courteous and professional manner. If that doesnt work I'll call again on Friday. If that fails I give up! Not meant to be for now

Also has anyone heard of success with Barclays when sending a recon request by mail? I feel like I'm much more persuasive on paper. On the phone I may get nervous, never had to negotiate for anything like this before.

I got my Chase Freedom in 2008 and it was my only credit card until I randomly applied for a barclays rewards last november. Then sometime in February I discovered this website and learned a whole new world about credit cards. I then went on an app spree and netted all the cards you see in my siggy.

What I'm trying to say is garden your Freedom and you'll be in the big leagues in no time! My advice right now tho is definitely work on getting a CLI for your Freedom. $500 is tough to work with and a CLI would help in getting better cards in the future.
Discover IT $5k | Target RED $1.5k | Capital One QuicksilverOne $1k | EXPRESS Next A-List $990 | Barclay Rewards $850 | Capital One Platinum $500

These limits do suck furry cat balls Smiley Very Happy I can't even purchase a plane ticket right now even though I plan on turning around and immediately paying both bills. I'll take your advice Craaaig. Hopefully around the 5th or 6th statement after they view my usage I can request a decent increase.
