I upgraded my green to platinum, no hard pull they just send you a new card and say to use your card until the new one comes. I wish I could have signed up for a new card because I would have done a sign up bonus but Amex is pretty firm on only wanting to issue me one card account. But after a year with a card or mine was 11 months at the time, I started getting the upgrade boxes again and it finally worked and said congrats your new card is on the way. It has the same numbers that green had except the 4 digit number and crv on back are new.
So you had your Green for 11 months, at which time the "Upgrade and keep the same account" appeared, so you selected that and got a Platinum with the same account, different outside codes?
And you were simply denied any apps you tried outside that upgrade to get a second card that was a Platinum, in addition to the Green? No sign up bonus?

How did you reach this conclusion?

Whether to app anew or PC would depend on the following:
1. If offered to upgrade (there's never a HP with an upgrade) with 50K bonus points.
2. Upgrade with no bonus - if price of HP & new TL is =/< $1,000, then apply for a new App for the bonus.
3. If price of HP & TL is =/> $1,000, then upgrade with sans HP and bonus.
For this offer, unless there is a compelling reason to avoid the HP & new TL, applying new is overwhelmingly the better choice, especially considering PC'ing into the PRG will disqualify the cardmember from all future PRG bonuses.
All things being equal, unless offered a bonus, never PC Amex cards.
+1,000
$1,000 that is ![]()
For #3, and #2 for that matter, I think people who "put a price" on their HP are a little too wrapped up in HP having value. HP don't have value. HP are either used, then fade, or not used, not utilized. There is no "I put my HP in the bank and I'm so happy I did" option ![]()

Couldn't agree with you more, the only price is really the TL. However, on this forum, if I didn't include "potential" HP price, can you imagine how many replies will ensue pointing out the oversight? LOL
You have to have your card at least 13 months before Amex can upgrade you to a higher AF card. You can always apply for a different card for the bonus and close one, but I'm assuming you haven't had the green for 13 months at least. The upgrade when and if you are eligible will not be a hard pull, also, I believe you wont be eligible for any bonuses being offered with an upgrade though. I've read on this forum if you apply for a new Amex card and are an existing Amex customer though, you wont get a hard pull reported if you are denied a card, only if you are approved will they report a hard pull you.

Did you get a spend bonus on any of those PC moves?
Nope.
1) Sorry to hear that.
2) Didn't think you would have. Thanks for confirming.
3) Sorry to hear that.
The underwriting for the charge cards are all the same. You can PC to any of them but doing so without a bonus is a waste. This is especially true because Amex can deny you future opportunities to get the bonus on the PRG once you hold the card.
