I got two "products" in anticipation of applying for this one later.
I dont know how many new accounts you have CC, but I got auto denial by comp on cash+ because of two new(ish) accounts, approved on manual review, and UW did spend a lot of time doing a gentle lecture on being 6 months app free before giving this one a shot.
I've had no previous relationship with them, though.
Hard tug should be on TU, FICO 9.
I've never spent that much time with UW on the phone, but he was refreshingly honest and open about a few things, so there is that.
@Remedios Meh i actually enjoy conversations with UW's sometimes lol. I like to teach them about credit and make them eat their words sometimes and they are at a loss of words when i know more then them about lingo etc(granted denials do stick sometimes and sometimes they are overturned, I just find it kind of fun). If you want a long talk with an UW, give chase a call have had a few hour conversations with them over the years lol. It really comes down to whether they want to approve you or not and the UW you gets mood if it goes to manual review whether you get a whammy or a score. People with 50+ inquires on a single cra, bk and slews of new accounts get approved for the cash+ with a 5k+ sl so always a YMMV type of thing. I got instant approved on my cash+ for 1k had it open for a year they gave me an auto cli to 1500 and then closed it as honestly imo it was kinda dragging down my profile when i have many cards from in the 25k-60k cl range and prefer to keep most cards around there although there are some outliers for sure.
Although a saying that kind of applies fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.. Although i would be be the fool me three times boat ![]()
Everyone and this 6 month rule.......
Never once have I ever had USB mention this blasphemy.
I'm sitting over here with LOL/6 and ROFL/24 and two newish USB cards including altitude.
I really dont know what to make of it.

I don't get why it's such a big deal to open a free account with them or a lesser card even just to open the door for the app. If you're eyeing this $450 AF card then there's a desire and it's silly to just not go for it if you're willing to pay for it. You can even mitigate the HP issue with the opening of the Checking account online and picking a CC to go with it and it waives the fee on the checking account.
There's definitely an INQ issue with them though as when I opened 2 cards with them last year they auto denied based on that, called them for a manual review that resulted in 1K/ea and then called them again to get them bumped to 10K/ea. Sure, there's a couple of phone calls but, it was an easy $300 in SUB's between the 2 cards.

no big deal with opening a "gold" checking account with them although it is free I use to have one and they nickle and dime you for everything even if it is "free" . I transferred money from that checking acct to another account and beileve they charged a 3 dollar ach fee? Who the heck does that these days other then us bank. That alone when I cancelled my cc due to the lauhable cl in-turn made me close the checking account as it would of been no longer free. Now if I was serious and went for the alititude card then i would take the free checking account again although it is worthless being the checking account in so many ways

So has anyone tried to apply? How do you feel it compares to CSR?
CSR honestly imo if you use transfer partners and eat out or travel alot crushes it for most people.. Just depends on where your spending goes to. The CSR is an awesome card for me as typically eat out/drink away a few k a month then the other perks, etc. Although alot of people like the attitude reserve as well, but never really crunched the #'s like many have.

I'm well aware of their tactics and didn't neeed another Checking account to keep track of but, it's convenient for redemptions. The whole ACH thing is avoidable when you use an external bank to pull funds from them. I have a few accounts that allow p2p transfers for free and use those instead to pull funds out since they don't have USB branches where I am. Eevn just having a card with them opens the app for the AR. I haven't dug into the approvals on the AR as I have no interest in paying USB $450/yr for a piece of plastic but, they do seem to have decent limits due to the level of the product.
A simple Google search brings up the main landing / application page. As noted above, the blue bubble says "Exclusive to US Bank Customers" with an asterisk.
Follow the asterisk down toward the bottom of the page, and the referenced text is:
*The U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite® Card is offered to U.S. Bank customers who have an eligible U.S. Bank account relationship open and active a minimum of 5 business days prior to submitting an application. An eligible U.S. Bank account relationship is defined as: Checking or Savings account, Certificate of Deposit, Mortgage, Home Equity Loan, Home Equity Line of Credit, Auto/Boat/RV Loan, Personal and Small Business Loans and Lines, Commercial Loan & Lease, Premier Lines, Private Banking account or U.S. Bank credit card. If you have questions regarding eligibility status, please speak with your banker.
The timframe of how long another non-Altitude account needs to be open is certainly shorter, but still very much there in the terms.

Let’s be fair about this. USB only charges $3 for transfers if you want the instant service which is something a lot of banks charge for because it’s a premium service.
I’ve banked with USB for quite some time and never paid a dime in account fees except a check reorder. They waive the ATM fees for foreign banks twice a month with the gold package.
I dont even keep sizeable balances with USB. I make under 100K and use USB for checking/small brokerage account. All my savings goes into Amex or investments. So I’m not that profitable of a customer....
Can you explain how you felt nickle and dime’d ?
