Use a card at a pop/soda machine once every three or four months, is that enough to keep it open?

Theres a pop machine ( or soda, sorry I live in Minnesota and no one says soda here haha) in the breakroom where I work and it takes credit cards, and I usually buy a 50 cent can with each of my cards once every few months, is that enough usage to keep the card open? I suppose I can buy a couple cans in a week period with a single card if I had too.

Any trasaction should be enough to count towards account activity.  I have never personally tried to just purchase something that small so my answer is only in theory.

No idea but made me smile when you said pop. I used to live in Michigan when younger and always remember soda was called pop Smiley Happy wonder if it means my ol nickname for my grandpa " pop pop" would be translated as soda soda in MN? Smiley Happy

I live in California. The soda machines here that take credit cards charge at least $2.50 for the can and usally 3 bucks or more. I'm liking the 50 cents a can where you live. Seems almost nostalgic!   Great idea to rotate cards on those machines! I rotate at the gas stations and the deli in our office building. Little purchases that keep the card active and can easily be PIF.

Wow thats crazy, $2.50 a can. The malls here that i've seen charge the normal $1.75-$2.00. Only other place I've really seen machines that take cards (though I don't pay that much attention at pop/soda machines usually) are at the amusement park here, and their prices are astronomical, similar to going to a pro sporting event.

Your employer likely keeps the prices in line by agreement with the vendor.

Call it soda pop! Then everyone is covered. Originally from Minnesota too.

A purchase is a purchase, and counts as activity. Whether it's 25 cents or 50 bucks. The card will remain open by doing the occasional soda purchase as you describe.

.50 cents a can? 😱 The last time I purchased a can soda for .50 was in the 90s!
I live in Seattle. Our cans are more 1.50 or so.

With the # of cards that some people have here, while buying cans of soda will keep the cards active, it may stop YOU being active in the long term!

I rotate my cards that I'm not using at the moment to hubby.  He is a swipe fanatic!  Smiley Surprised  Little purchases throughout the day and move on after a month to another.  It works for me.
