Use my Macy's?

I have a Macy's CL 2500 but haven't used the card in more than a year since there are no Macy's here. The CL helps with utilization but I'm afraid that the account will get closed due to non-activity. I recently paid off our Kohl's balance and have no other store cards reporting a balance. Should I place an OL order with Macy's for something to give the account activity? Or will I get dinged for using an account that hasn't been used in a long time?

D@mned if you do, d@mned if you don't.  My mom had a store card from Nordstrom, hadn't used it in over 6 months, when she went to use it it didn't work, she had to call from home to have them reactivate it. On the other hand my brother has a Best Buy card, and he did not use it in over a year and it still worked. Go figure.

Actually, there was a 6 points boost on my EX because there was account activity!!

I say yes, use it and let it report a small balance.

So, I tried to place an order online yesterday since there are no Macy's in my state and I want the account to stay open. Had everything figured out and then hit a glitch trying to checkout. It had difficulty pulling up the charge card information and I ended up having to call in today to complete the order. Now its done but I wonder if I was just on the cusp of having my card canceled due to inactivity. So, IMO, if you're in my situation, find some towels or something and place an order!

FWIW, customer service on the phone was fantastic. If I hadn't had to call in, I wouldn't have realized I just needed one more $4 item to get free shipping, saving me $15.

I think Macy's doesn't cancel the card if you use it within 2 years....but it is coded inactive after 3-4 months. Best to call and ask a CSR if you are near the year mark just to make sure.
