Re: Using ID instead DL on a credit app

What do creditors do with ID/DL numbers?

I thought that ID/DL numbers are only for law enforcement agencies, as part of a old federal law that prohibits data miners from using this info?

In the old days (pre '80s...i think that's when the law was passed that I was refferencing), ppl and the evil data miner monsters were able to get access to ID/DL numbers to solicit products and build mailing lists (not sure why these sorts of ppl need the ID/DL numbers to do this, but yeah).

This fed law was suppose to prevent to association of ID/DL numbers to outside groups and only to law enforcement agencies.

What does a lender do with this info?  Why are they asking for it?  Or, am I remember this law incorrectly?

Most lenders only ask for the usual info i.e. name, addy, ssn, etc.

\Confused/

Anyways to answer your question, yeah the ID number as the DL number should be fine.

I don't have a Texas DL because the new law of getting drive school if you are under 24, I'm 22, so only have my MEXICAN DL, I asked the police and they told me it is ok.

Around 4 months ago the police stops me, the officer gave me a warning only and I used my mexican license and it isn't a problem, the officer only ask for my residence for the background check,
