Using credit cards

Still learning how to be responsible with credit cards. How often should cards be used so that they are not closed by the credit grantor?

Re: Using credit cards

I'd say a couple times a year.... some people keep a small monthly bill on a card that gets auto pay every month. (small amount like netflix bill).  Other people shuffle their cards and use every 3 to 6 months depending on how many they have.

Re: Using credit cards

To be safe, once per quarter should suffice.  With most Issuers, even once per year will be sufficient.

I've had some where I haven't used for 10+ years, and they still keep it open.

Re: Using credit cards

It helps to have one or two main cards that you use all the time, with others that are used sparingly or for a specific purpose.

Heh. If you use it now it will probably set off a fraud alert on the card!
