Re: Util needed to justify a CLI

I got shot down for CLI twice for not utilizing enough of my credit to justify an increase.  I was turning in a 0 - 3% utilization .  A third time CLI denial was over an alleged late pay which I knew nothing of or was messaged about, nothing bad happened because of it and no late fee assessed..

Lately , I was credited back some unauthorized charges due me and my card had a balance of negative $134.  C1 surprised me by more than doubling my CL.

Re: Util needed to justify a CLI

I'm rebuilding after a BK filed in March '22. Trying to grow the cards that I have while hanging in the garden. Of the cards that I have, I think at least two of my Cap1 cards will show the most growth so I put a lot through them. Sometimes running them into the 90% range then paying to $0 before the statements close most months. Don't know if that part can hurt the process.

For one of my other cards, it doesn't get as much use as the others. I used it for a decent purchase for Christmas then had to return the item because someone else bought and wrapped it. Do purchases that are returned still count as useage? 🙂 Actually, I am kind of wondering that.

EQ - 698 / TU - 672 / EX - 686

Capital One Savor - $16000 / Capital One Venture - $13000 / Travel Advantage Visa - $11500 / TD Cash Card - $7500 / Bread Rewards AMEX - $6950 / Apple Card - $6500 / TD Double Up - $5500 / Mercury - $5000 / Ally Master Card - $4300 / DCU Visa - $3000 / Capital One QuickSilver - $500

CapOne is funny, my Quicksilver card, which I got less than a year after my discharge, started out at $3,000 and grew to $6,300 with heavy usage and always paying the balance off before the statement cut.  My SavorOne card, which I got after my Chapter 13 fell off my records, started at $2,000 and has also gotten heavy usage and always paid in full before statement cut; it is now nearly two years old and has yet to be granted a CLI.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015

  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

Re: Util needed to justify a CLI

Some cards (Cap1 for example), ask for monthly spending on cards when requesting an increase. For me, that depends on the card and month. I can just put food, gas and utilities on my cards which is about $750 or use them for a trip and other purchases which can be $7500+ in a month.  And, if a person has a $5K limit and only runs $1K through their cards each month, It's the credit card companies, wondering why they need more money? And I know most things like this I handled through a computer.

Re: Util needed to justify a CLI

Funny thing is that's what I put for intended monthly spend for Capital One - I was running $1K through a $5K Savor One.  They gave me $10K.  I'll never really understand CLI decisions when issuers like Amex decide it's cool to go to $18K in 9 months, but US Bank will only go to $1K.  They are seeing the same profile!
