Utilization help wanted

Currently I have four credit cards and one Amex charge card.

I would like to keep my utilization on around 5%, so is it a good idea to let all credit cards show a 0 balance and have the charge card report $300 since my CC limit is 6,000. Please advise!!!

Re: Utilization help wanted

I'm pretty sure Amex does not count towards your utilization.  I would just let Discover report a small balance. <350

Re: Utilization help wanted

Sorry forgot to add, all other cards report zero. I find 7% works best for me some say 3% some say 9% so YMMV.

Re: Utilization help wanted

So the balance the charge card reports does not matter ?

Not for util%. (except on TU98)

It does factor into total non-installment debt though.  And total accounts with balances.

Re: Utilization help wanted

Pick the non charge card with the highest limit, since highest utilization on a single card is also used for score.

Re: Utilization help wanted

So I should leave a balance on the Freedom, and on zync so the ratio of balance on TL is below 50%

Re: Utilization help wanted

I would say only one, otherwise you will get the "to many revolving accounts with balances" ding.
