Venture X Annual Fee Waived process (military)

BLUF: If you're in the military and had a c1 card prior to active duty, and you enrolled that account in SCRA benefits,  you should be able to upgrade that card/account to the Venture X (if offered) with no annual fee.

|Afternoon forum, the Capital One Venture X card is one many military members don't get because their are other travel cards that don't impose annual fees on military members such as the Amex Plat. Any military member who has looked into C1 has most likely recognized that they will waive fees on accounts  (including Annual Fees)  that were opened prior to active duty. Well, that was my plan. My plan was to get the Venture X before active duty and then get those Capital One benefits and have this card AF-Free, but I didn't realize my training over the summer put me in early and now it is too late for me to get the card, or so I thought.

After calling C1, I learned that I could still get the Venture X with no annual fee on one of the accounts I have with Capital One that I opened previously. This means anybody who had a Capital One card before active duty could upgrade THAT card to the Venture X and skip the annual fee. After hearing this I re-confirmed with the agent that this is the case, and that nothing would change with the account or its eligibility of no fees since "it will be the same account with just a different rewards structure". This seems like a great thing, but of course you would lose the potential for a SUB, which is nothing compared to having a $395 card free.

I know this is very niche data but hopefully somebody out there can benefit from this, I'll update this thread in a year or so, or whenever I manage to get an upgrade offer (Quicksilver--->Venture X datapoints are out there).
