Anyway, she told me that the inquiry would be a soft hit, thats the only reason i didnt close the account.
Fast forward to today, i check my report, hard inquiry by discover... GRRRRRRRR
i already spoke to a supervisor from discover he said he'd have to listen to the phone call, and i KNOW she said it was a soft inq....
has anyone had any experiences dealignw ith this kinda stuff?

Well if thats what was said you should be fine after they review the call.
Seems like a bit of an over-reaction to be "very very.... upset" when you asked for more credit and you got it. It's an inquiry and they have every right. Not every CSR is an A+ student, but neither is every consumer. Just be happy you got your CLI and move on. If you're lucky, they'll find the tape of the call and maybe even reverse it, but it's nothing to have a heart attack over.
Congrats on the CLI.
Congrats on the CLI! I understand why you would be upset about the Hard Pull.....especially if you already have a lot of them and wanted to avoid adding to them.
I had pretty much the same thing happen to me with Chase.
They did end up checking the phone recordings, and ultimately "remasked" it as a SP. I don't think you have anything to worry about. My issue took 2 days to take care of.
Most CSRs are knowledgeable about credit topics, or they might be misinformed. Any time you ask for a CLI you should expect that there is a possiblity of getting a HP regardless of what the CSR tells you.

Yes, it seems to happen somewhat often. "The rep at ________ bank said it would be a SP and it was a HP!" The reps do not always know the difference or what it will be.

Exactly. I just assume it's a HP and if it's not, I'm pleasantly surprised!
Not certain why people get so upset about this: you are increasing your credit lines, which is no different than applying for a new one. Realistically all CLI's should be HP's, but for some reason we've all been spoiled by Amex and others I suppose.... but again this is a third-standard deviation population we're dealing with in terms of credit behavior.
Anyway to the OP, congrats on the CLI, and perhaps you'll get it switched to a SP if they have the recording and they're feeling nice about it (it's not mandatory they do so AFAIK).
Two words. FROZEN REPORTS.
If your not looking for new credit, just CLI.
I had the same thing happen with BOA, they wanted me to unfreeze my reports for CLI, said no thanks, only interested in soft pull CLI.
