Talking to Comenity about this card seems like they are a little bit out of water dealing with a major credit card (is it a stretch for me to call a Virgin America Card a "Major Credit Card?") I mean I don't think the other Visa/MC they offer (Sportsmans Guide, Clearwater Creek, etc.) are major cards.
My partner was approved for the Silver Signature with an $8500 limit but a 24.99% (Tier 3 according to terms available from them)
I had asked last week for the CL and the APR to be reconsidered and call this morning to follow up because I had not heard from them and the girl called me back to tell me the "Strategic Marketing" something rather department reviewed it and the account was to new to qualify for a CLI or APR reduction... I said it doesn't sound like anyone reviewed the credit report and actually did anything more than the automated computer did and I thought that was the purpose of sending it to them and further is a strategic marketing team what Comenity calls "Underwriting" I don't understand what marketing and underwriting would have to do with each other?!
She went on to say that it's standard for comenity to issue all cards starting at the 24.99%.
I said that is a blanket statement which simply is not true! you offer 3 tiers right online, what do you mean 24.99 is standard?
I was like if a 720 (what ever score they pulled, partner ranges 715-740 usually qualifies for over a $5k credit line but tier 3 interest... what would one need to get tier 1 or 2?
she had no answers and it just made me mad because she would say one thing and then I would ask something based on how she said it and then she would change her answer to try to answer mine which would then just make her 2 statements overlap against each other!
She was going to try to "reach out to that department again and see if she could get anything specific as to why I would not qualify for better rate" but she wasn't sure they would give specific... I won't hold my breath either.
Comenity seems like most of the time you can't seem to reconsider and can't seem to talk to the person who can actually look at a physical credit report.
I don't get it because then I read about people calling and having applications finalized and approved but anytime I don't get an instant im told they can't do anything, it has to be reviewed and answered in mail... I'm calling the number directly into recon.... what gives!?

yes instantly after approval and registering the card.
We won't carry a balance so it doesn't matter in the end, it's almost just a principle thing... how on one hand do you approve for a $8500 limit but give your worst tier 3 rate?

Who knows...you may need a score of 850 just to be in tier 2 rate, and need to be Credit God to get the tier 1 rate....why don't you call the EO and see what's going on?

It's not uncommon to get higher tiered acceptance even with higher scores---especially if new accounts were recently opened and/or AAoA has been lowered.
With a TU FICO of 760 and ~4% UTL I got the higher tier on Barclay Arrival. I feel this was due to having opened 3 new accounts the month before.

Oh wow.....I would call again and talk to someone else...you know better not to accept "NO WE CANNOT" the first try. If they say no again, ask for the Presidential Office number

I get no were when calling... like I said I don't get how some people seem to get recons instantly over the phone unless it's just there app is just held in system and is not actually needing recon or anything

Agreed. I most of the time get the highest interest rate, or close to it, but I also get high limits, so I don't care. I judge worthiness more by the limit I'm given and couldn't care less what the interest rate is.
