Regardless -- closed the checking account and told them off. They said to get it unblocked I had to go to a branch for more info and with ID, only checking account not the CC. They apparently don't think I'm me, or something else related to identity

I'll be transferring my balance to my Amex card next week to pay it off and be done. Maybe the CFPB will come through but after this treatment, I'd rather just write a huge arcticle on this shady bank and call it a day. Horrid experience. But thank you for the support! Such is life.

Not really. Received an email from a SVP today telling me he is escalating this and will update me this afternoon. However I was told this Friday as well and never got a call from the Office of CEO. they're probably all just getting back from holiday (as he stated to me in email he was away) and bogged down with my CPFB complaint. I will update when o hear !!! Very slow movers.

** UPDATE **

Finally received a call from the VP today in Client Care division. He seemed very concerned and said tomorrow he is devoting his day to resolving this for me .. Going to contact all departments involved to figure out WHAT EXACTLY occurred and "how we can get this fixed".

So sounds promising but I've learned not to get my hopes up in these cases. I will post tomorrow as I know more !!!

Ps - for anyone here who has the card - how long after approval did your card report ?

I'm curious, I live in Cali and theres BBVA branches everywhere here, if I were to say apply for this card and get denied for "Identity" problems, couldn't I just walk into the branch and verify myself? I mean this bank sounds so shady...

It has many complaints on BBB and consumer financial protection bureau for this exact same reasons - most are resolved. I was going to go to the branch outside LA myself, but I think the Amex card is handled by a different area of BBVA. So far they haven't mentioned going into a branch for this card but DID ask me to go into a branch when they froze my checking once. Told them to get lost and closed it. BBVA is a very odd egg indeed and I should have heeded warnings. Live and learn.

I suggest you don't apply for this card. Sorry to say. Hopefully my card is reopened, but even if it is I will literally use it once a month for gas and car payment and PIF. I only want it to help my overall UTIL as the limit was/is $5000.

Nop no plans to app for this card and never will, I do hope you get your issue resolved, kinda ridic that they have to go through this much **bleep** just to verify someones ID..
