It isn't very likely that they would lower the limit. As stated by another before, they actual tend to raise limits when this happens. If a normal CSR can't handle the question or give the answer, then maybe speak with a supervisor.

The Csr I talked to and multiple managers said the card keeps the opened date it just changes numbers and looks. So yup I am getting my upgrade in October too I check the mail daily since I got the letter waiting for it!

That's a new development, if true. AFAIK, Synchrony upgrades from PLCC to bankcards create a new TL, account number, and open date. Keep an eye on those CRs, everyone!

And perhaps those CSRs or managers may not be as well-informed either, which has been the case in several instances. From reading some recent Walmart MC upgrades the open date of the orginal card was not preserved. So, the MC basically became new TL and the store card closed.
Something to consider OP since the only way you'll know for sure as far as your AAoA (absent from these forums or any CSRs) is your actual CRs - should you decide to take the upgrade. Also, no guarantees on what CL you would receive. Of course, if you decide to go through with the upgrade, you can always check and see if they can raise it.
