Try listing all the cards you have, which cards and which company they're from. Then I'm sure people can come up with batter suggestions than Walmart and merrick banks.
Don't apply for crards for sake of obtaining higher overall credit limit because you might regret later, as I've seen people do that quite often on forum.I'm a rebuilder and I don't have a lot of choices with the potential to give me more than baby limits. I'll be stuck in baby limit land until my reports are clean.
Raise the limits, and pay down util. I was a rebuilder too, now I'm a builder. The apr on the Merrick is high. If you are carrying balances, and need to pad for utilization, neither Walmart nor Merrick are good to go (it's just a pre approval). Build up your limits on the cap one cards, and pay off what you owe, if anything, a proper rebuild doesn't really require more than two or three cards, with one card reporting around 5%. So I wonder why you ask.
@Anonymous wrote:I pretty much had decided I would apply for Walmart store card because they pull TU and my 659 score with no recent derogs would get me at least a $800 limit. I need to pad my utilization. In addition the pull wouldn't mess with my 670 EQ score because I want to app for Discover as soon as my recent CC pay down reports.
Well now Merrick enters the picture. I will not app for Walmart and Merrick. I'm considering Merrick because they too pull TU and won't mess with my EQ score. They sent me a pre-approval for $800 limit that doubles in 7 months to $1600. I don't think Walmart will be that good with increases. Merrick is no set up fee, no penalty fees, no over limit fees, free FICO score. I know Walmart gives a free FICO too. Merrick is 25% APR. I don't know Walmart's APR. I'm a rebuilder with no limit higher than $1000. Which should I apply for?
If you shop at Walmart, it's a good card to have. Gas discount, free FICO, etc. My initial limit was 900, which I reconned upon approval to 1400. Two months later I called for a CLI and it went to 5K. Two months from now, I expect to get it to 10K. My scores are similar to yours.

I am not eligible for limit increases because existing cards are secured or somewhat new. I have paid all cards to zero except one is less than 5%. I can't charge anything other than basic stuff because limits are low. I do not plan to carry balance with Merrick if I decide to apply. I know nothing is sure when I apply; however, my chances are better than good. I ask because I want an overall higher limit and cant want to wait until my scores are higher. I plan to make a purchase that will need to be paid off in several months and don't want my utilization to be high while I'm paying off. I will put that purchase on my low interest card.
I wouldn't suggest either card, I closed Merrick a while ago and Wal-Mart too. But.... I do miss the TU Fico 08 bankcard credit score Merrick gives.
Its just a lack luster, high apr, BAD customer serivce card. I wouldn't sign up for it again though if I had options.

Is this the Merrick without the AF or with the AF? Does the Walmart card have an AF? If the Merrick is the no AF version, that would be my choice. I have it. Started at $1250 and, as promised, doubled to $2500 at 7 months. A couple notes. The Walmart card Fico is classic 08. The Merrick Fico is Bankcard Enhanced 08.
Yes it's the Merrick with no AF. It's not the secured version. I checked Walmart's site and its APR is 23% and no AF. I wonder how the CLI are obtained and how often.
I got that same offer about a year ago for the merrick card. I would read the fine print on the fees. I know my offer said the AF is billed monthly . I would stay away from both cards personally.

Except that they were offered the Merrick with no annual fee.

@If you shop @ Wally then Wal-mart for sure.
Merrick is a Credit Card, Walmart is a store card(unless you qualify for the MC version). Go with Merrick
Walmart CLI's are usually every 4 months, sometimes sooner

Merrick sometimes includes a monthly billed AF. No bueno.
