Want 2k limit.. any suggestions?

Hi, new here... just a quick question.  I am wanting a card with about 2k- 3k limit.  I currently have 3 open cards.  One with Household with $300 limit, zero balance (opened 12/06).  Captial One $500 limit, zero balance (opened 10/07), and Merrick Bank $950 limit, balance $400 (opened 6/07)...
Last check of my credit score (thru TrueCredit) was the following:
Equifax 666
Transunion 630
Experian 602
I had a bk in '05.  I want to close Household because I don't like how they jacked up my intro rate for no reason after I got it and Merrick has very high interest rate.  Any suggestions?

Re: Want 2k limit.. any suggestions?

welcome. the scores you posted through true credit are really miss-leading. myfico is about the only source for a tru fico score. if you want to purchase your scores and give a rough idea of the negatives on your report a ton of people will offer suggestions.

w/o knowing you true fico's it's really just a guess.

btw, check the sticky's the credit scoring 101 thread explains the diff between fico and fako (true credit type scores).

Because TrueCredit doesn't give real FICO scores, it is difficult to use a card selector to figure out what you might apply for. Pay off all of your cards except one, and leave that one with a 9% or less balance. You might be able to get another CapOne and combine with your current one. I have seen reports of Chase and BoA giving a decent CL with a BK and a real FICO similar to your FAKO EQ. Maybe you should try the BoA preapproval site.

Pull your FICO's, see where you really are, and then check into a credit union, either a local one or one with nationwide presence, like you see here on the forums. If your scores are in the lower 600's, you might have to do a secured card; depends on the CU. Local ones might be more forgiving.

Agree with the BofA pre-approval site. However, if you are opted out of pre-approvals, it won't work (and neither will the other sites.) If you try it, please post back here and tell us what it said. We might be able to give you some useful ideas after that.

Re: Want 2k limit.. any suggestions?

The scores that I listed were not thru Fico, but I would say they are pretty accurate.  The reason I say that, is because I did pull my Fico's in January and they were right @ 600 for all 3.  When I pulled them, my cards were almost maxed out.  At the time I didn't realize how much that hurt your score, so I paid them off except for that 1, but will go ahead and pay that one down too.

I got a preapproved offer from HSBC for up to $2500 limit, no annual fee, 19.9% interest rate, but I don't want it if is is going to be $300 limit.  I got another offer today and the name of the bank wasn't listed, so I looked at the fine print on the back & it said HSBC also.  They had different preapproval codes and different websites, but I guess they are both thru HSBC.  Any experience with these?

Re: Want 2k limit.. any suggestions?

HSBC does 5th/3rd Bank so it might be them.  I got one similar to that and it said CLD Master Card that turned out to be 5/3 Bank.  You can probably bet it's a sub though.  I would get the broom out and sweep that one in the fireplace...lol  Smiley Tongue

Just noticed --are you also Freedombound? It takes so little to confuse me, lol....

Anyway, if your FICO's were at 600 with maxed-out cards, they might well be MUCH higher now with your util down. As much as I sympathize with the pain of FICO $core pulls, it might well be worth it to find out where you really are. If your scores have jumped up enough, you might be in the mid-600's, and that puts you in a whole different card tier. And if you're getting ready to pay another chunk down on the Merrick card, I would do that first, let it post, and then pull scores and apply.

Anyway, for future reference, always Google FICO coupon or FICO discount code to save yourself at least 15% on your score pulls. Since these codes come from non-FICO sources, we don't publish them here, as a courtesy to our myFICO hosts, but they're very easy to find online.
