Weird AMEX Sub Ineligibility

Hey All,

I tried applying for the AMEX Platinum a few days ago and got the pop up saying i'm not eligible to receive the SUB. I found thos to be quite odd since I've never closed an AMEX card and my accounts are all in good standing. Spoke to three different CSR's and none of them could tell me exactly why the system is flagging me as ineligible for the SUB. I have a Gold card since Dec 2018 and a BBP card since Jan 2019. Have any of you had any similar issues? I'd love to get the plat but I really would like to know why i'm being considered ineligible for the sub before I submit the application.

I know why.... 2 new cards w/ SUB's attached to them.  I run into this when I change up my lineup w/ AMEX.  Give it some time if you really want the points or take the new card w/o the bonus.  Weigh things out pro/con of having the monster Platinum and it's almighty $550 AF attached to it.

It's likely that if you let time pass, then this may likely turn out to be a non-event. Give it some time from your last approval. Notice that their disclaimer does include "the number of AmEx cards you have opened", not necessarily closed ones, since the closed piece wouldn't apply in your situation.

"Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

Love the age where computer programs make decisions.

The programmer is the only one that knows, and no number to talk to him.

Is there a specific period of time I need to wait or do I just have to keep checking?

When you applied for the Platinum, was this done via a regular browser session or incognito?

Re: Weird AMEX Sub Ineligibility

How much are you spending on Amex cards ?

Could be that Amex doesn’t think your level of spend is sufficient for a new card sub

Total Revolving Limits $254,800

I generally spend between 1k and 2.5k monthly on the Gold card and between 1.5k and 3.5k monthly on the BBP. It seems odd that this could be reason considering that I'd have to spend 5k in 3 months to get the sub and there's a pretty hefty annual fee. If I spend enough to get the sub they're guranteed at least $5,550 over 3 months.

Re: Weird AMEX Sub Ineligibility

Your two Amex cards are both relatively young. Put some spend on them and just use them responsibly. It's likely you will find the popup go away if you try again in a few months or so.
