Weird Chase CC Offer? Explanation needed

Re: Weird Chase CC Offer? Explanation needed

Ficus, I was referring to when opening my checking account at the branch. As the CSR at the branch was entering all my info into the system he told me I can get the Chase Freedom card if I wanted. I agreed and when I look at my CR now I see no hard inquiry from then, which was back in Jan 2007. I did however get a hard inquiry for each of the two times I requested a CLI.

I don't really understand why they gave me the card when my score was so low back then, if currently "serious delinquency" and "short history" are keeping them from giving me a CLI to my current $300. I have a $2000 CL Amex for heavens sake!

This leads me to believe that maybe they just do a soft inquiry and automatically match your current CL without being too picky about the rest of what's on your CR. Or maybe I just got lucky! :-D

What was the time span between your requests for an additional chase card. I was approved for a 4k freedom signature chase card a week ago and I am trying to see how long I should wait before I apply for an amazon.com or circuit city card.  I like chase because they pull equifax which is my best score.

what are your spending habits like on your chase that cause them to automatically increase your limit ever so often?

Re: Weird Chase CC Offer? Explanation needed

regarding chase CLI, I have a bunch of cards with limits ranging from 2000 to 3000. The chase card was the only card that started with a limit of 400. I requested a CLI and not only did they not match my other cards, or what I requested, they gave me a new limit of 700. Hard inquiry also. Though chase is the oldest card on my file and its was one of the ones that I frequently used.

Re: Weird Chase CC Offer? Explanation needed

I personally got 2 Chase Amazon.com cards within a few weeks of each other.  One had a CL of $2500, and they increased it to $4K on activation.  The other had a CL of $5000, and they just increased that to $7500 upon activation.  I also have a Circuit City card, which I was told had a $1000 limit, but when I got it, it said $2000.  Since then, I have had Chase call me 3 times in the past week to verify my identity for other Chase cards (I have a fraud alert on my CRs).  Unless I'm wrong, CCCs don't usually verify info from you unless they are planning to approve you.  (anyone have any feedback on this?)

I'd say Chase is great about things like that.  If it makes any difference, I'm in GA, and my EQ is in the low 600s, with practically no credit history, and too many inquiries (many of which are NOT mine, I should add... but they have no way of knowing that without talking to me).

I hope that helps with some insight... as little as it might be.

I talked to a Chase supervisor today about a CLI and here is what I was told.

If Chase is not your highest CLI, then it is fairly common when applying for a CLI do do a hard pull and give a CL midway between the Chase CL and your highest CL.  This is mostly computerized.  If you then call for a recon and higher rate they will do a second hard pull and look over it manually.
