@Jordan23ww wrote:It's been less than 24 hours since I filed my claim and I just received a call from a representative with Wells Fargo Rewards. Unfortunately they weren't able to issue the 3% cash back on any of the transactions that gave me 1% instead of 4% due to how the merchants coded them. I kinda figured this would be the case but since there was no harm in trying I gave it a shot.
So that's a sort of waste-of-your-time process! I guess it's for the relatively rare cases where the merchant codes correctly and Well Fargo systems mess up (which really SHOULD be very rare if it simply MCC based!) Too bad but I think nearly all/all category cards warn that they go by the merchant coding and that is not their responsibility...
In other news, I tested Etsy myself. Flower bulb purchase from what appears to be a gardening shop (Gratifying Gardens). Etsy seems to show up on the bill like a PayPal purchase does, IE, as a pass-through. Since they specifically list several Gardening MCCs as counting, as well as listing Etsy as a merchant example, I'm definitely going to follow up on what this purchase coded as that it only have 4%... I thought for sure coming at it from two different angles one would have counted.
😱
P2 finally called about not getting credit as either Esty or a Gardening category. They tried to tell him initially that Gardening/Nursery/ Flowers was not a thing, when they list 3 different related MCCs on their site. He pointed that out to them, and that they list Etsy as a sample merchant, and they ACTUALLY OPENED A TICKET.
(I still don't know what MCC it actually coded as, unfortunately.)

@unsungivy oh wow! That is crazy! Thank you for sharing this info with us! I bet this is the drawback of having sooooooo many categories on this card. Not even the WF employees can memorize them all. I am hoping that you have a great outcome from this ticket that has been opened. It would be great if more and more of our transactions coded as we thought they would and should and we can avoid having to try to dispute the cash back we are given. For the most part we are using the card as intended on our ends, there's a breakdown in how the merchants are coded or WF is seeing it!
After a bit more time with this card, I have some additional data points as it relates to Amazon purchases. Some, but not all, amazon purchses are getting the 4%. It depends on how the purchase codes and I am not clear what the distinctions are. Here are sone examples of the merchant description and what they have given for cash back. The last one (at 1% only) was for some dishwasher pods. If anyone has more information, it would be helpful to eventually uncover the differences.
AMAZON.COM* - 4%
AMAZON MKTPL* - 4%
AMAZON RETA* - 1%

@G2244 Thank you so much for sharing this information! This is so interesting!
So far for me it's been:
AMAZON.COM* is 4%
AMAZON MARK* is 1%
Those are the only two I've seen.

My guess is Dishwasher pods are classified as a "Retail" item since they are a grocery type item. Do you have other items purchased from Amazon that are typically found from a grocery store? Like toothpaste, laundry detergent, drinks or snacks?
FWIW
This Attune card is a great fit for a golf nut, I'm surprised I've gone thru all these pages and no mention of this category gap filler. I battle every weekend, close to 100 rounds a year, and until I got the Kroger 5% mobile pay card last year, I was making measily 2%, bringing my average cashback across all categories down. Now with Kroger, golf spend maxed out at the top. I would jump on this card if I didn't have that Kroger card and/or my course didnt offer tap to pay. Card might still be worth just having for golf trips!

Lol, good point. Maybe I can talk my dad into it. He rolls his eyes at my "hobby", but golf is his #1 hobby. To this day my mother complains about the tens of thousands a year that were spent on the country club membership when we were kids, and now they have to share a car for lack of retirement funds 😜
Without a SVCC membership, he does the public courses now, which, as you've pointed out, would qualify.
Hmmmmm...

So, apparently "GloriousGardens" has themselves listed as "misc apparel and accessory shops", according to Wells Fargo. And that Etsy does a pass-through on a vendor's MCC, much like PayPal and the Curve card used to, so the MCC on Etsy is specific to how the vendor set themselves up as.
Which means it's going to be really hit or miss for purchases on there.

@unsungivy Sorry to hear about this! Thank you for sharing this info with us! Etsy really is gonna be a hard one to consistently see 4% on unless you always buy from the same vender.
